For starters should I go to expense of sending it back to DW for any cleaning or maintenance required?

My question is should I just take it to gun shop for trade or consignment?

Not sure how many rounds will be fired by then but could be in range 15000 rounds. About 95% range will be light loaded poly coated lead, I'm currently involved in pulling jacketed 44 cal bullets then will start on 357 ammo. Unfortunately the poly coated can't be pulled by my RCBS bullet puller and a inertia bullet puller with crimped lead is just too much hammering, so I have to shoot them.

I have had a rail installed by DW on 6" barrel for my red dot and will included that if selling. The 8" barrel will be unfired and 6" very little because I don't like the extra weight.

Reason for selling is all the cleaning involved in revolvers, it's like cleaning 7 barrels.

I have never liked revolvers, it's like shooting 7 guns when it comes to cleaning and never master shooting one well. I didn't and don't have that problem with what I was raised on, Ruger 22 Standard from 1957 that I still have and then the 1911 series gun from all my years in US Military.

I have wasted thousands of dollars over the years trying to get used to them and enjoy them and it never happened for me.

I'm not a big revo guy either but I don't mind them too much as I shoot them 1 time for every 50 times with a 1911. But I definitely needed at least one for my DW collection to be a complete one. Well actually two, one small frame and one large and I filled that need alreadylaugh!

So sorry to hear that you’ve had such a difficult experience with your DW revolver. It must be working well for you to have put 15000 rounds through it in just a few months, but I understand about the cleaning part. As far as selling it goes, I’m sure there are plenty of folks right here on the DWF that would be interested. I’ll leave it to another member to advise since I’ve never bought or sold here.

I would not say difficult experience necessarily, but exhaustive. But that is splitting hairs, I guess. big-grin

Sorry to hear about your negative experience cleaning a revolver.  I know what you mean, trying to run a snake thru each chamber in the cylinder while holding the cylinder open and trying to not scratch anything is definitely a pain.

You’ve definitely been a long time active member of DWF, hate see you leave.

Regarding selling, I have bought at least 4 pistols/packs from other DWF members.  It’s my favorite way to buy because there’s no fees nor sales tax on the purchase for neither buyer nor seller.  Win-win!

I hope your sale goes smoothly.  DWF members have been great to deal with.

I'm not leaving the forum. I have 3 DW 1911's and as long as I can shoot and read, I'll be here.

Well, not what I'd call "active DWF participant" because I'm on satellite internet and it's neither fast or cheap and when you use up your data allotment they throttle you back so hard that most websites time out. Also I had to have cataract surgery due to radiation treatment for cancer and it didn't come out 100% for vision improvement in left eye. I now need glasses for everything, didn't before and also have dry eye problems caused when I try to use electronic devices like this laptop if used more then 20 minutes or so and it seem to get worse if I do it to much daily. It feels like eyes have been exposed to wielding arc.

Gatta go and put the eye drops in the eyes to ease the symptoms.

Sorry to hear of your ailments as that really sucks to have eye problems on top of battling other HD conditions. Prayers sent.

And on a way lesser note it sucks not to be able to have optimal/cheaper internet service this day and age.

Sorry to hear that, I can empathize to a certain degree because I too have had cancer, but thankfully after surgery and subsequent radiation treatments I survived.  That was 12 yrs ago now.

Hang in there, keep up the fight, and I too am sending a prayer for you.

Well since all bills have now been paid for the month electronically, I decided to spend some time here and worry about sore eyes later.

I was shooting yesterday and was using the 6" barrel with red dot optic mounted and on 10th round it went "Phsst" and thinking I had one round stuck in barrel throat I found the bullet sticking halfway out of end of the barrel, bummer!!!  To make a long story short after about 10 minutes carefully using about 6 different sizes of bits and then about 10 seconds of pushing it out all is well. I will clean the barrel and if no visual damage I will shoot it again today. Although I think I may just shoot 4" barrel till I'm done with the gun.

Being done with the gun may come sooner than expected as the new bullet puller for 357 works like a champ and even pulls lead bullets.

Also, the about of rounds fired was incorrect as I forgot about having owned and fired at least 6 to 8 various 357's during the time period this ammo was loaded. rnThe 715 has at best guess about 500 rounds fired. Regardless I will send it in for full mechanical check including end shake and timing, to polishing exterior. For members here I will tell DW to send report on what was done to gun.

Even though I've been on here quite a while, but I had to interrupt several times for cats (wife was taking kids to school) fighting and wanting in or out.

The 715 is listed here on the forum, however no interested reply's as yet maybe because of no pictures or too high of price for like new gun with 1000 to 1200 rounds fired. I'll leave it up a couple more weeks and if no inquirers I'll close the add and put in the gun safe.

Wish I had kept all the new and once fired ammo I pulled the bullets from and not sold them. Such is life I guess.

I haven't had cancer and my eye doctor says my cataracts are not bad enough to take care of. In fact, I wouldn't have known I have a problem. I am wanting the lenses though so I won't have to wear glasses after 64 years of wearing them. Guess I will just have to be patient. I was 72 a week ago and have never broken a bone, had a tooth pulled or had a root canal. It is better to be lucky than good. I do have lots of empathy though.

I do love Revolvers though. I have tons of Dans, a bunch of Manurhins, a couple of Korth, 4 Registered Magnums, and I really love prewar and immediately post war K 22s. Plus Pythons, Anacondas, Charter Arms, Ruger SP101s and others. I have tried not to collect 1911s. I have a Dan, Ruger, Smith and several RIA 22TCM/9mm. Plus 3 LAR Grizzlies if they count as 1911s. I do like Wonder Nines but I can count my polymer guns on one hand.

I find cleaning a revolver very soothing. But I have been doing bonsai for 45 years. Cleaning a gun is a lot like pruning a bonsai. 😲😆

Due to political situation and other factors, I think I might pull the add I posted for the 715 recently. However, that means buying back a bunch of unfired brass from local gun shop. Any advice?

WOW! Thanks Ole Dog for rescuing this thread from being so negative.  I too, find cleaning a revolver therapeutic and very relaxing. Of course, it may be because they're Dan's. I have 19 DW revolvers, 1 FA in .500WE and 1 H&R revolver in .22LR.  I love disassembling the Dan's to clean them and then re-assembling the BA's and resetting the gap. Obviously, I'm anal.laugh

I guess that's why they make semi-auto's; because it gives us all a choice.  I love my semi-auto's too. I just don't think they're as much fun to clean as the wheel guns.

Sorry your experience with revolvers has been so unsatisfying.  Good luck with the sale.

BTW, the H*** with being PC for the commies.  Don't pull your add. No, I don't need another 715.laugh  I already have 2; one with VH 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 BA's; the other with V2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 BA's. Both have custom grips by L. Bruce in Cocobolo.
