I appreciate your patience with this newbie question.
I'm an almost-new shooter with an almost-new 715. I've only brought it to the range once, so it hasn't been live fired much yet. I attempted to clean and lube it after that trip. (I've also been meaning to write up the story about the first time I shot my own guns before I forget the details.)
I've done a lot of dry-fire practice using a MantisX gizmo to help me learn to keep the gun still while pulling the trigger. I've done about a thousand double-action trigger pulls this way as I gradually improve. Even though the Dan Wesson manual says it's OK to dry fire the 715, I'm using snap caps because I'm not sure they're expecting me to dry fire one thousand times.
Yesterday I noticed the gun squeaks a little when I do a double-action trigger pull, or when I pull back the hammer. Sometimes I can hear a spring moving. I don't remember hearing the squeak when I first got the gun. So I guess it's time to lubricate it? I don't want to cause unnecessary wear but I'm also apprehensive about the first time opening up the gun and messing something up.
Oh, and one of my daughters is extremely sensitive to the smell of CLP. I'm thinking of cleaning with an odorless gun solvent (Breakthrough Military Grade Solvent) and following GunBlue490's advice of just using mineral oil as a lubricant. Any thoughts on that?
My wife can't breath when I use Rem oil. I have been relegated to cleaning guns outside. I have researched this and discovered Froglube to be innocuous. I have some I never used but plan to. It has a minty smell. I am not sensitive to the odor of gun oil so I was sceptical but evidently it is a THING. Does WD 40 affect your daughter? If not, you can use that.
Re the squeak. The trigger return spring I think can make that sound. If you put in Wolff reduced power springs it will smooth the action and eliminate the squeak.

I agree with Old Dog that it is probably the hammer spring. If you are nervous about dis assembling your 715 you could remove the grip and put a couple drops of oil in the screw hole. The Dan Wesson small frame is easy to work on compared to many other revolvers.
Slip 2000 is a very good gun lube which has no odor. to me

I use Slip 2000 products as well. My Household Commander is very sensitive to chemical smell and doesn't complain about the Slip products. Regarding lubrication- a drop of ATF will certainly take care of the squeak and it has rust inhibitors.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I got a bottle of Break Free CLP a while back and just opened it up a few days ago and it didn't have the usual smell it's had over the 43 years + I've been using it. No, I don't have Covid. I got the old bottle out of the trash, and it smelled like it always has. I like it scent free. I had no problems with the smell it had, but my mother complained about it, and my GF did too.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but after I took the grip off the gun I decided to just spray some CLP in the main spring (part #11 in the fuzzy diagram at https://danwessonfirearms.com/ourquality/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Dan-Wesson-Revolver-Small-Frame-Manual.pdf , the one that's usually way down in the grip), and then pull back the hammer and spray some more into that general area.
Then I worked the action a bit and left the grip off overnight to allow time to drain. I've heard it's best to use as little as possible to avoid attracting grime. In my case I rationalized it because the gun is mostly a dry-fire queen at the moment. I may dry fire it another thousand times with the MantisX before I can get to a range to shoot it for real again.
On another day with better light I'll open it up further for the first time.
I used the Clenzoil CLP that came with my first cleaning kit, so I'm sure two of my little women will be complaining.
