I've seen lots of pictures of guns stored in foam cases and presentation cases that have suffered horrible finish deterioration as a result. I don't know all of the circumstances, but I would assume that because materials such as dense cell foam and cloth can hold in moisture, and with a closed case that has no way to vent ambient moisture, the gun just sort of sits in a puddle (that's probably a gross exaggeration) of it's own juices.
My Pistol Pac gun and barrels are currently kept clean and very lightly oiled, inside of it's closed case, inside of my humidity controlled safe, however I'm thinking about either removing the gun and the barrels from the case, or possibly just wrapping them up in VCI paper.
Does anybody have any input?

I think the problem is there is no air movement around the guns and barrels inside a case or box. I usually take my guns out of the cases and boxes and store them 'naked' in the safe with plenty of silica gel bags. I also oil all my stuff pretty well.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I have numerous guns in the pacs inside the safe. I oil them liberally and sometimes wrap them in oil soaked rags in the pacs as well. I have never had a finish issue with any of them under these circumstances. My safe has one of the electric dehumidifiers just to be clear.

Let me first declare that I am no expert and I am just proffering an observation. I live in N central Fl. Because of the high humidity outside, the windows are rarely open. Either the air conditioning is on( most of the year) or the heat. Occasionally the fireplace is used. Both heat and air remove humidity. So much so that the wife suffers often from dry skin. My blued steel japanese bonsai tools show no rust when stored in the house even though not oiled. The same tools stored in barn or porch will rust in no time flat. Air off and windows open invite rust an all ferrous metal in the house. Even today many homes in the North and elsewhere have no air conditioning and care should be taken to prevent rust( take them out of styrofoam and dehumidify) . Oiling should be routine in any event. IMHO , this should be sufficient in a centrally air conditioned house. Vigilance is good in case humidity is high.

This one comes up every now and then......wrap them up in wax paper.
