I tried shipmygun.com, but Dan Wesson Firearms/CZ-USA is NOT one of the choices to send your firearm on that site. If I’m doing something wrong, please help me figure out how to choose DWF. I put in DW’s zip code (13815), but DW doesn’t show up in the list of choices to whom to ship your firearm.
DW address for repairs:
Dan Wesson Firearms | CZ-USA

If you know of a good machine shop they may be able to carefully drill the nut out without damage. Be careful of the barrel threads. A scratch on the inside of the shroud won't matter.
I googled how to remove a bolt from the clutches of red loctite. The only way is 500 degree heat. I vote for trying the oven trick 525° but wear oven mitts. To hold the gun. Will 500 destroy the heat treatment of the gun or barrel?

I found this at https://theinfinitekitchen.com/advices/question-at-what-temperature-does-stainless-steel-change-color/
At what temperature does steel change properties?
At 575 degrees Fahrenheit, steel turns blue. At 800 degrees Fahrenheit, steel turns grey. Above 800 degrees Fahrenheit, steel produces incandescent colors. Between 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, steel turns an increasingly brighter shade of red.

Blued steel is basically iron with a percentage of carbon alloyed with it. The more carbon the harder the steel but the more brittle. Different heat treating makes harder and stronger. There are various other metals alloyed with steel in small amounts. Most are proprietary secrets or patented.

Wow, never saw one that was this stubborn before. I've had a couple of red Loctited barrel nuts, but all I had to do was unscrew the barrel from the frame and then take a torch and heat up the nut until the Loctite melted and off came the nut. A good cleaning of the threads and the problem was a bad memory. I've only had to replace two barrel tubes since 1977. One was a gun bought used with a messed up barrel tube, and the other was when I fired a round into a tube clogged with a squib. That was a fun surprise. It just barely swelled the shroud, and a new tube had it shooting in 15 min.

Yea, I destroyed an EWK barrel wrench that uses all-thread rod to clamp it down tight to the barrel nut. I was hoping the barrel would back out of the frame so I could do exactly what you did, but the nubs on the wrench let go first. Someone may have loctited both ends of the barrel, not sure. Hopefully Bob can get it apart without damage because it’s hard to replace a 15” BA.

Update: Bob called and said someone had a squib and then fired another round into it. Expanded the barrel into the shroud. He said he may be able to save the shroud, but will be ruining the barrel in the process of removal. There’s also a chance he may have to cut it off and make the shroud a 10”. Ugghhh!!! After what I paid for this Dan, that hurts bad!!! Hopefully he can at least save the shroud.

Kind of reminds me of a episode on the Andy Griffith show, "Barney buys a used car from a little old lady" (Mrs. Sledge) who only drove it on Sundays to church! What a fiasco that turned out to be! Barney's (Bob) was Wally down at the local filling station garage. When Gomer took the car to Wally's, the repair list was long and expensive. Unfortunately, Kurt ended up being Barney in this episode. Whomever sold that DW to Kurt, (Mrs. Sledge) should be ashamed!
What's the moral of this episode?🤔
Anyone care to venture.....

If I had noticed the barrel nut at the time of inspection, I would have had a small clue there’s a problem. Of course, wouldn’t have known there was a problem with the barrel because it’s not visible to the naked eye. But, I didn’t see it. I did a check of the cylinder and lockup, etc and all seemed fine. Condition/appearance it very good.
I guess I was so excited to have a 357 with a 15” BA I didn’t look at it close enough. Story of my life, I learn the hard way! I will not make that mistake again.
In the end, all that really has happened is I’ll have more $$ in it than it’s worth and since this is a hobby, that’s not the end of the world. There’s way worse things in life.
