My father-in-law gave us a 22VH Serial 707* around 20 years ago. Today was the first time I tried to use it. For some reason I cannot slide the latch down, anyone have an idea? The gun does not look like it was fired.

First off, welcome to the forum.

If I understand what you are saying is that you cannot slide down the cylinder release latch, is that correct?

If so, it sounds like the latch is seized in place from years of non use and perhaps neglect.  I'd start by soaking the latch with a good penetrating oil and working the latch.  It may take time but don't be in a hurry, patience is good.  I'd also give the gun a good cleaning  and lube.  Report your progress and we will try to help.  Also, please drop by New Members and I introduce yourself.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Thank you Scorpio, I will introduce myself. About the gun, I will try some lube.

So you know the latch does move, it goes down about one sixteenth of an inch. As far as the rest it looks immaculate, when my Father-in-Law gave me the gun I put it in my safe, I never felt like shooting it so it just sat in it’s original packing, he never gave us the outer box. I will let you know how this turns out.

A little oil did work, everything was stiff, after close inspection I see the gun was fired. First a good cleaning then I will take it out for some fun, that is as soon as it warms up a little.

Thank You
