I just purchased a .357 SuperMag and it has silouhette sights by boMar on it. I called DW and ordered new DW front and rear sights for it. The rear sight does not fit. the distance from the center of the roll pin (attach) hole and the center of the elevation screw hole is incorrect. I talked to Keith at DW and they seem to have very little info on older models, low versus high ser. numbers, etc. I contacted Millett and they sold out to Bushnell and they don't have any info either.
I Ordered anothe sight at Keith's recommendation from MidwayUSa and it is wrong too.
Do any of you have any information that will help me find the correct original rear sight assembly?

It sounds like they may have changed the pin position somewhere through the years. Which location was your gun made? I don't really have any other useful info for you, hopefully one of these other guys will.
In case you're wanting to sell your BoMar's, I may be interested in taking them off your hands.

You ask where it was made… good question, even Keith couldn't tell me. It has an E before the serial number but he doesn't know what that designates.
Is it possible that all Supermags were drilled and fitted with Bo Mar sights and would never have had a factory/Millett sight installed?
I am not going to shoot silhouette so I am looking for a lowere profile site assembly that lends itself to easy holstering. I am planning to use it for bear hunting and want to be able to get into action quickly.

As far as I know, they were all shipped with standard iron sights. A buyer did have the choice between a ramp & patridge front sight, though. Here's mine, with it's original sights...

On the place of manufacture topic, your gun should have the location rollmarked just above the serial number, as with this .375 example (sorry, I don't have a handy .357 pic).

The Monson and Palmer guns never came with Bomar sights. It was an option on the Norwich guns for the SRS-1 series.
I have a Monson .44 Mag that the Bomar sight didn't properly fit on also…same problem you have. It probably has to do with the factory upgrade to the sights back in the early-mid 1980's. Dan Wesson went to a different sight back then. My .44 Magnum had the older adjustable rear sight, which required an allen wrench to set the elevation and windage. The newer sights were adjustable for elevation and windage with a regular screw driver. The Bomar I got, set back further on the topstrap, but it is an advantage for silhouette…you are allowed to replace sights with those that extend the sight radius by no more than 1″ from factory dimensions. You can see it in this picture. The added sight radius is helpful for those small targets at 200 meters.
Charger Fan MAY be interested in your Bomar sight, I definitely AM interested in it. They truly are the best iron sights out there.

Looks like a DWF Steel Cage Deathmatch shaping up here folks
In this corner, in (stainless steel) gray shorts is IHMSA, the only known owner of one each pistol in every caliber known to man.
In the other corner, in (Hemi) orange shorts is Charger Fan, a tenacious competitor, struggling through a severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome caused by his affliction with IPS (Incessant Posting Syndrome)

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well, after looking and realizing that I must be blind, It is a Monson Mass era SM.
I am still puzzled at the dimension issue I am having. Keith tells me that their is no one in existance that know what a low serial number model would be. My number is E004614. Millett doesn't know if that high or low and they sell the sights. Another thing that I can't figure out is the Model #. Some info refers to the SM as a model 40 but nobody sells parts for a Model 40. The Millett sight are for Model 15, 44, & 41 but no 40. I cannot believe that so much needed history has been lost over the years.
I would keep the Bo Mar if the front sight blade wasn't so tall. I want to hunt with it and it hates a holster. I'll keep digging and se what turns up. If I get rid of the Bo Mar sights I will let you know.

A blued .357 SuperMag is definitely a Model 40...the stainless version is Model 740. I honestly think that the rear sight for an early .44 would probably be the same...if you can find an application listing breaking them down as early/late production.
I would consider your serial # to be an early one & it isn't too far behind mine... E00392x. I bought mine new & unfired, and included with the gun was a barrel wrapper dated Feb. 1982. From the info we've gathered, the gun was probably made within 6 months of the wrapper date.
I would think that yours was probably made not long after mine, if that helps any.

Reference Millett site: http://www.millettsights.com/controller.php/cat09/revolver
DW00001 | Rear, .312 White Outline 15, .41 & .44 |
DW00002 | Rear, .312 Target Blade 15, .41 & .44 |
DW00003 | Rear, .360 White Outline Lo Serial No. .41 & .44 |
DW00004 | Rear, .360 Target Blade Lo Serial No. .41 & .44 |
I purchased the DW00001 & DW00003 for Lo Serial No as indicated above based upon input from Keith. Neither fit and neither reference a Model 40.
I guess I will have to search for a complete gun and give up on this one. I'll make a gear shift knob out of it for my HotRod.....

Well, at least that would give a new definition to the "Pistol Grip" shifter!
According to that Millet list, you'd think your bases would be pretty much covered...but I guess this one wasn't meant to be easy.
