DW did offer factory engraving in the early days, but I am fairly certain that they got out of it by the time 15-2's came along. None of the factory engraved DW's I've seen have had initials on the trigger guard, either.
The engraving on yours looks like nice work, and may be recognized by someone in the engraving community. You may want to send your pics to this guy; http://www.dwharris.com/default1.htm The work on your gun doesn't look like his stuff, but he may recognize it as someone else's work.
aboard, and thanks for the

I can't help you as to whether it was engraved at the factory or after, but it does make a beautiful pac in my opinion. Did you try pulling all the cloth and foam out and looking underneath? Sometimes you can find old receipts or other pertinent paperwork that somebody stuck under there decades ago.

The 1978 Price List discusses engraving, including precious metal inlay

This may indeed be Factory original, the S/N could easily be in that general timeframe
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

There, see? What do I know? So yes, it could be a factory job...the only caveat to me is the initials on the trigger guard. But I also mustn't rule out the possibility that the original owner had custom requested the initials. We know custom s/n's were doable, then custom engraving could also have been doable.
The plot thickens.
