Got my shipment in from EWK and new gear rocking on my 744 (have put a Hogue rubber grip on since my intro post)! Thanks to Eric I now have LOTS of goodies to play with! I got an 8" barrel drilled/tapped for my jack weigand mount for my deer pistol setup, a 2.5" barrel for fun (also a green fiber optic sight for it), a barrel tool, allen wrench/shim set, and a spare barrel nut because I am prone to loosing small things. I threw on a weaver 2.5x8 weaver scope and I believe those are weaver rings as well! can't wait to test her out! Still need to clean the stuff off the 2.5" barrel (Cosmoline?) and I can try that too. Side note, anyone have a good way of getting that off? I soaked the 8" in clp and ran a patch/jag to get the big chunks off then rotated oil patch and brush for what seemed like an hour to get inside of the barrel clean.
Anyway, here's a pic of everything I got.

mineral spirits and then a good degreaser I should think will work just fine.

Mineral Spirits will work, but since it's all metal, I'd go with boiling water initially. Either pour over to melt the cosmo or boil it in the water, either way. Should cut the crud if it's actually packed in cosmo. Then clean and oil as normal.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Thanks! Boiling worked wonders, although the misses wasn't very please when she stopped by to see what the weird smell was and saw a barrel in the pot...

Well,,, at least it wasn't her dishwasher. Took me about 5 cycles to get that crud outta there after placing a barreled receiver on the rack for a cosmo cleanup.
I had actually thought about that but was a little leary about what that stuff would do to the plumbing/sceptic system.

I'm guessing you were trying for another deployment after that smooth move.

I've washed everything in the dishwasher. It's great at cleaning TA-50 (Army gear), particularly Kevlar helmets, inserts, and outer vests. All the sweat and gunk washes right out. I've habitually cleaned ARs to Nagants in the dishwasher. In fact, I think I'll put a dishwasher in the shop when I build it.
