There have been 'times' that I have stuck my Dan Wesson Model 14-1 into my Jaypee Duty Holster and hurried off to Fort Apache (AKA: Health & Human Services Bldg.) where I am currently deployed at. I hold the rank of Lt. now, a sort of a late-gift for an ageing lawman, as I had previously held the rank of Sgt. for the past 17+years. When I first joined our PD in 1971, revolvers 'ruled' period! There were no pistols, except the 1911 A-1, for a precious few. Our PD issued the S&W model 10, a blue steel sixgun, with a four-inch 'standard' barrel. Over the passing years I stayed with the revolver, primarily a Colt Official Police. It was in 1992 that our local agencies went to the semi-auto, the S&W 4586 Pistol, in DAO trigger. I was grand-fathered in with my Colt and a couple of other service revolvers as years flew by. It was in 1997, when I first got introduced to the Dan Wesson Revolver. A Model 11, that I have wrote about frequently on this forum. I added this Model 14-1 a year or two after buying the Model 11. I wanted to see if other DW's were as accurate as my 11 was. I found this Model 14-1 in a local pawnshop, begging me to take it home. I did, and found that other DW's are accurate also. I liked the compact solid flat frame of the 14-1. It fit in my S&W K-Frame size duty holster well. The stout 3.75" barrel, with the goose-neck shaped barrel shroud, and a set of black rubber finger-groove Pachmay Combat Grips made 'this' DW a favorite of mine, next to it's older brother, the Model 11. I haven't shot this DW as much as I have the Model 11. When I do, I'm always impressed with the accuracy, while shooting the old .38 Police Load, the 158-gr. LRNin standard factory loading.

This next Monday, I'm due for qualification and I aim to shoot this 14-1 and be 'qualified' with it for the next year, until 2015's qualification date. I don't have any idea how many lawmen ever used a DW for duty purposes. but if I was back on the street again this DW Model 14-1 would be called upon for patrol duty use! Dang, these DW's are accurate shooters that are 'stout' and 'solid' and if trained with properly, can make one of the 'best' in duty sidearms for cops, Glocks NOT withstanding! Thank you my friends and I will post a picture ASAP or as soon as I can get that grandson to help paw-paw out! Thank you my friends!

Thanks for the photo, David - and the stories about "real" use of the DW. That's still a very nice looking piece. Keep up the good work!  smile
