Fairly new 715 owner here. Have a couple, including a pistol pack. The empty 10" slots in my boxes are "longing" to be filled (no pun intended). 😉
But those rare 12" and 15" barrels ... really? From a collector's standpoint, I would love to have them all. But are they really anything more than a collector's item?
A 15" just sold on GB for $1085, which is less than indicated by some older discussion on this board. I was sorely tempted myself, but just couldn't justify it because I would rather use those funds to buy something else like a 744 that I would use much more.
I know there is no good answer to this, but I am compelled to ask anew about whether anyone finds those long barrels actually useful, or just really cool collector's items?

So, I think that any barrel longer tham 8 inches has no real use for hunting or any shooting sports out there.
Even informal range sessions would be a little dificult with those things...
But for sure they made a very fun coletor's item, wich is a good reason to have one or two "Long Dong" barrels.

Don't forget the 'WOW' factor when you pull out a 12 or 15 inch barreled gun at the range. I usually get a few comments and a few laughs as well.

I believe the longer barrels were developed specifically for Silhouette competitions, shooting in the Creedmore position, rather than just a collectable oddity.
That is what they were made for. Handgun silhouette guns have a maximum barrel length of 10" for the Production categories and 15" for the Unlimited categories.

The vast majority of handgun silhouette guns have 10" barrels for most categories, quite useful for the sport as it gives the shooters a longer sight radius to more accurately align the iron sights with. The 15" barreled guns are potentially even more accurately shot due to that even longer sight radius. I use all my long barrelled guns for informal range sessions, shooting them off a bench. They can embarrass many a rifle shooter. I've also used my 10" barrelled guns for small game hunting.
