I started to get some misfires with my 15/2. This is my IDPA gun so it really needs to go bang everytime. I found the the hammer was not striking the primer in the center. I checked to see if the bolt was coming up into the cylinder recess before the hammer drops and it isn't. Took it apart and cleaned everything but it didn't help. I am thinking I am going to have to replace and fit a new hand in it. Anyone have any experience with this. I tried on a 715-2 a few years back but was unsuccessful. I ended up sending that one in to Keith. He did a great job but I would really like to try again. Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

I think that adjusting timing is one of the very few things that very few of us want to handle as a DIY. I have no problem taking my DW's down to the very smallest piece (how many of us have removed the cylinder release latch to clen the silly little U shaped spring?)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

If memory serves me the ball will allow the cylinder to droop slightly if the spring is weak or not tight. This of course is what I think I remember someone else finding to be their problem a year or so back. It should be an easy check though. Good luck

Thanks again guys. I've been offline for a few days. I have the hand and some headspace shims being sent out by DW. I checked the adjustment of the ball. It seemed normal. I tightened it up some but if I went too much it would start to bind the cylinder up. When the parts come in I'll give it another look. Let you know what happens.

I think I have the problem taken care of. I received a hand and a headspace shim from DW. I got extremely lucky because I just installed the hand and checked it. The bolt comes up into the cylinder each time before the hammer drops. This is the case in both double and single action. I didn't have to do any fitting at all. Sometimes things just fall into place. I have not shot the gun yet, but I will report back as soon as I do. Stay tuned.

Said it before, and I'll say it again:
DW Small Frame is one of the most user friendly revolver platforms out there.
Daniel B. made them pretty simple and very strong. He was forced into dealing with S&W/Bangor Punta, and I think that one of his defining principles was to cut out the silly, complicated crap in firearms design and manufacture.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm far from an expert on the subject, but I just went through an issue with an out of time DW 15-2 that I purchased. The hand in the gun when I bought it had been filed down on top which is NOT where you want to fit it (as I found out when I made the same mistake with my replacement hand). A brand new, unfitted hand will function, but you will feel some resistance as the teeth on the rear of the cylinder drag along the unfitted hand. Eventually, if the hand is harder than the teeth, I would suspect that it might wear down the teeth on the cylinder. You want to fit (file and stone) a notch on the upper right edge of the hand. You want it to push the cylinder into position, then clear the tooth and slide out of the way without any drag.
Left side of the hand
Right side of the hand. Notice the notch that has been filed/stoned into it to clear the cylinder tooth. I ruined this hand by taking material off of the top of the hand before I realized I needed to just clear the tooth after the cylinder had been rotated.
This is how the groove and the tooth interact. Sorry I couldn't get a better picture, but you try this solo with just an iPhone

Thanks for that info hAkron. I knew that the hands were filed on the one side but was not sure why. The first hand I tried to fit a few years ago would not function without fitting. Unfortunately I made the same mistake by filing the top down and ruined it. Live and learn.
I just shot the Ms. state IDPA match with this gun and it ran 100%.
