I'm having a problem with my 15-2's rear sight, it's a bit wobbly.

On a closer look it seems that I'm missing a few parts.

In front of the side adjustment screw there are a hole from the side that indicates that there is supposed to be some kind of guide rod.

There is also a hole from the front that indicates that there is supposed to be some kind of mechanism to get the clicks in the side adjustment.

Does anybody know what parts I'm missing?

Is  it possible to make a new set or am I'm better off buying them?

Regards

Alor

I wish I could help you with your sight, but I've never had one apart.  However I can Welcome you to theDWF Sign.  This is a great place for Dan Wesson owners.

Welcome to Dan Wesson land!

If you are able to make or buy the missing parts. please post the details of your success.

As far as I know, not too far, early guns were sold with a right sight that had the rear blade machined into the adjustable base which the tang was attached to. Later guns were sold with an adjustable base that had interchangeable rear blades.

Now the not so good news, the older style have had a tendancy to develop a "wooble" and I haven't seen where that can be remedied without total sight replacement.

Not only that, but I have also read that the rear sights are no longer available at DW.

Millet used to make several but they quit too. Optics Planet used to carry these up to a year ago, but they are out now also.

Please correct me guys if I am wrong.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Earlier today I tried to make a guide rod with little success, It seems that the sight parts aren't perfectly aligned.

I i made a rod that allowed free movement for side adjustment, it wasn't tight enough to keep the sight from wobbling, if it was tight enough i couldn't adjust the sight.

Is there any store that sells an original DW rear sight?

I compete in PPC and the rules state that I need to use a sight that the revolver has been shipped with from the factory.

Have DW ever shipped a 15-2 with another rear sight like millet or anything that is still available?

I was getting into fights when I worked as a bouncer and security guard and I had several sights broken due to them getting whacked on counters and stuff. I finally had enough of buying replacements (It was the early 80's and they were easy enough to get), that I went to a jeweler and had them braze the whole thing together with her little acetylene torch and silver brazing rod. No more problems, and with a little file work, and some bluing, it was almost invisible.

My 715 came with a totally different sight on it, much more robust than the ones I've had on any of my 15's. I don't know if it's stock or not, but it's sure as hell a lot better.
