I have a 15-2 with a three letters and the number one as a serial number. How common is that?

Hey VFR,

Can you share the number?  Where was your 15-2 manufactured?

For a serial number the way that's described, it does sound odd for a 15-2. Could be one of those limited edition types, maybe. Or maybe it was made for a certain person & used that person's initials?

Jody asked the right first question to figure it out - it almost surely must be a Palmer or possibly Norwich gun.

It could be a REAL CHESTNUT if it were from Monson...

Does that mean the initials are ETG?Drool

Is there anything else special about the gun that you can tell?

Inquiring minds want to know.  We're all excited here.  We wanna see this gun.

Also, someone please tell me what's the big deal about disclosing serial numbers.  If they're gonna take 'em away, they can find out what the serial number is unless you bought it privately.

OK, now I have to do this:

You know...the more I think about this, the more I agree. Especially if you're in a state where you don't have to register your guns, showing serial numbers is probably no big deal at all. Not that I'm any expert on the issue, but I can't recall hearing of a situation where someone's gun was swiped from them, due to the serial number having been shown on the internet.

I guess it's just a comfort thing for the individual. As an example, I know for sure that IHMSA 80x80 has no problem showing off his serial numbers.Laugh

Dang right I don't worry. If you bought the gun and filled out the 4473, they already have the serial number on their list, so no big deal. Even if it was a private transaction, merely showing the gun with the serial number XXX'ed out tells them that you own it, and they will look for that one too, when the time comes.

BTW, if you've ever bought ANYTHING gun or shooting related, ammo, shooting supplies components, scopes, are an NRA member, unless you've paid for all of it with cash, they already have your name on their list.

vfr...would like to see that one also. I have a couple ETG/IHMSA Dan Wessons. Those special numbers are more desirable to me.

I want to see it too, and VFR is in Massachusetts, birthplace of DW. Very possibly a "gift gun", maybe something special for an employee or family member, or a presentation gun of some type.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That's what I'm thinkin' too. Honestly, I would be surprised if it has ETG on it, being a non-SuperMag gun.

I dusted this one off from a forgotten corner of DWF, a short article from Todd Spotti about DW Custom Serial Numbers

http://www.lasc.us/RangingShot13-6.htm

I guess I could have had SDR1 back in the day

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I know other manufacturers have done that, so it makes snese that DW would have offered that, too. That would be just too cool to have a whole DW collection with my initials in the serial number.Cool

I wonder when that article was written? I assume it was closer to the Norwich years.

Sounds like Steve found the answer.  Now the project for vfr is to determine the history of the gun - who ordered a gun that special and then how did it find it's way into the market?

Pretty cool.

FA offers special serial numbers for $191.00 per gun.  Price goes down to $102.00 for 6 or moer units.  Sequential numbers; add $20.00 per gun.

One exception; for those of us who are members of the FACA, each gun we order can have our membership number as the serial number.  I'm not sure but I believe that only applies to special edition guns, like the 25th anniversary .454 Casul.

United Sporting Arms also made Sevilles and El Dorado's with custom serial numbers on them. Neat idea, but very hard to trace the gun's birth when the SN gives no clue.
