You guys might remember my first post about the screaming deal I got from a friend:
$150 for 2 15-2s with 2/6/12 inch barrels, and that I mangled the barrel nut trying to get the 12 off after a day at the range. I know now why it wouldn't come off, no matter what I did. This was my first experience with a squib. The thought that I could have been seriously injured is a sobering one. I don't know how my Norc 1911 would hold up, but once these come back, I'm throwing the 2" barrel on one of them and using it for cc. At least I KNOW these can handle it. Below is the email from Keith Lawton, the DW Operations Manager.
Brandon,
When a cartridge is fired sometimes the round does not have enough
powder/charge to make the bullet exit the barrel. This is called a squib
round and will not damage the gun if caught. You can usually tell this
has happened by a change in recoil, sound and lack of bullet strike. If you
have a squib round you can generally remove it by driving it out with a brass
rod. This will have no effect on the gun.
However, if the squib is not caught and a second round is fired this will
cause excessive pressure in the barrel and in most guns will only bulge a
barrel leaving a pressure ring inside and ruining the barrel but can also
cause the barrel to rupture. Most Dan Wesson's can handle having a squib
round shot out with only a bulge but yours gave way and the only thing that
kept the muzzle from spitting is the barrel nut and shroud. A testament to
strength and durability of our revolvers.
To avoid this from happening again pay very close attention to each shot.
Our current barrels are of equal to or better quality than barrels of the past.
Thank you,

The last sentence is in regards to them making a new 12" barrel for me, which is absolutely awesome. I didn't know they would do that. They're sending back the blown out old barrel with the guns so I can mount it on something to remind me of the importance of being careful and avoiding complacency. I'll be sure to post pics.
