I have a chance to buy a Dan Wesson Model 44 with 3 barrels for $1200. The barrels are 4", 6" and 8" and are vented heavy barrels.

I haven't had a chance to see it in person, but from the pictures it looks like it is in at least 90%+ condition. Is this a decent deal?

Thanks

Does it come with the pistol pack case, paper work, tool, belt buckle. If so I'm thinking that is the upper limit. Others will chime in with their thoughts.  You didn't say blue or stainless, where it was made? Matching barrels assemblies?

He doesn't have the case, paperwork or belt buckle, but he does have the tool. It is the blued version made in Palmer, Mass.

What are matching barrel assemblies? Like matching serials on the barrel shrouds?

Thanks

For a palmer frame the shrouds should have caliber only stamped on them.  Also a matched set should be the same style.  All VH or all just vent rib without full underlugs.

I would call it a decent deal, only if everything is in super excellent condition. Perhaps a bit on the high side without any extras to go with. If it has an original wood grip that is a plus. If the wood grip is zebra wood that is a bigger plus.

The barrels in the pic are 6", 8" & 10".  I've seen 10" barrels sell for over $350 alone.  I think I paid $360 for mine to complete a set.

The 1 I bought was a monson era.  Blue Palmer barrels are little harder to find.  Or at least in my searches they are harder to find.  If they are all palmer I'm not sure you could piece that set together for under $1200.  And it would take a while and a lot of searching.  I apologize for being no help against DWAS.

Considering the value of the VH10, probably not too bad but if it were me I'd shoot for under $1k.

I don't think 1200 is too much. I would still try to negotiate it down, but I don't think you will go wrong buying it at that price. Of course, that assumes it looks as good in person as in the photo. It would be hard to find a 44 for much less than 600 and the extra barrel assemblies would go for 300 to 500 on ebay anytime. I thin the 44 6inch VH, as shown, is a really sweet shooting piece. My wife loves to shoot it even with full power magnum rounds.

That 10 inch barrel makes the deal ok at 1200, but you could try to have him come down a little.

I agree with you all. Not bad, nice gun, lower is better, but once it is yours you will feel that warm feeling of DWAS satisfaction and price will not matter. The 10" VH is hard to get. If you cannot get a 4 " Palmer , get one from EWK. And a 3" too. You can always sell it if a Palmer 4" comes along.
