my question is on the Dan Wesson vent ribs is it basically one opening for every 2 inches of barrel length? I'm looking at a 357 10 inch on Gunbroker that I'm bidding on, the barrel didn't look quite long enough so I inquired and he said it is a 10 inch. my 8 inch barrel has 4 openings and so does his alleged 10 inch. does anybody have a ten? it should have 5 slots or openings on the ventrib by my calculations after looking at many pictures online.    thanks

You are correct, 4 slots will be a 8", GB adds are commonly wrong. Oh and welcome to the DWF.

I emailed the seller when he first posted that. Telling him that is not an ten inch barrel. He never replied. Your right that is an eight inch.

My 12" has six slots. And my 10" 44 mag has five. I think the seller is confused as many of them are when it comes to Dans. Then too, the photos are sometimes tricky too with the lighting and all.

Some sellers just have no common sense. Saw that ad. It was 8". When you get things wrong in an ad it lowers the price you could have had. Except the word "rare". That seems like blood in the water when fishing for sharks.

I asked him specifically what method he used to measure the barrel since in determining a revolvers eligibility for hunting in Wisconsin you include the length of the cylinder.  I also ask him about his claim about unfired condition since I thought I saw considerable wear on the crane hinge as well as a distinct line around the cylinder which wouldn't happen if a gun wasn't fired.

Crane hinge wear could come from opening the cylinder and the line from dry firing. However, it is near impossible to determine if a dan is unfired unless it has no cylinder line. A gun can be carefully handled and well cleaned and appear unfired. Like a dog that hunts, a gun that works is a good thing.

It is most certainly an 8 not a 10.  He apparently can't tell the difference.  I'll bet this guy has also been telling lies to his wife for years lol2.

Look's like he fixed the error with the new listing. Although, he's still claiming unshot like new condition in factory box.

If all the "un-fired" claims on Gunbroker were true we would have a surplus of ammunition!

And the "Truth Shall Set You Free"!

Pretty valid observation, although on my last (today) pass through Cabela's and one local big LGS, there is a surplus of ammunition, with two conditions:

1) It's not ever going to be .22 lr

2) You will pay more for it than you ever imagined possible. Bulk pack, shooter grade .223 for 50 cents each? Really?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
