I don't have a pic but the barrel stops before the the slots. You need a long wrench to remove the barrel. The knurled nut on the end of the shroud only forms an expansion chamber for the gas.

Any ideas on removing one of these barrels with the barrel nut notches rounded out?
The 7445 I bought has this issue. I think I am going to try the all thread down the barrel with a washer on each end and buddy nuts to get the barrel to spin out of the frame.

Fire a few cylinders of ammo out of it and see if the barrel loosens up--if it does, immediately get it off the frame before things cool back down.

Very nice. The photos show everything. So thinking outloud, the projectile leaves the barrel and the gasses expand behind the bullet exiting through the vents while the bullet threads it's way into the knurled nut on the end of the shroud.
Sounds interesting, but doesn't seem it would add to accuracy.
Isn't there a thread that was started to show off all the different BAs??? That would be an excellent place to store those fine photos.

If I'm thinking of the same thread you're talking about THIS ONE?, that one was done to get a complete photo list of the various shroud styles for this; https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=28
I guess I could post them there, too. This thread isn't a bad spot either, because of the thread title.
Regarding your accuracy comment, I agree. I don't think the comp would add accuracy, I think it's main reason for being, was to help reduce felt recoil & muzzle flip.

My 8" 744 shroud has to oblong slots on either side of the front sight and matching holes in the barrel.
I don't shoot the barrel and instead shoot a non ported new barrel. I will confess that I wanted to see how bad it would mess up a shroud inside and shot 6 rounds with the ported barrel, won't do that again unless someone else cleans the barrel assembly.
