I have a old model 15 that has the best trigger I have ever shot. I just got a 22 revolver expecting to have a similar trigger as the guns are on the same frame. However the trigger on the 22 is not even close to as good. You can hear and feel the difference in both. On the 15, if you cock the hammer back, every step is smooth and crisp you can feel each movement and it is like glass. In comparison the model 22 is like walking in mud vs walking on hard ground. Is just feels sluggish and tight. Some might be due to this looks like it may never have been shot. If it has it is very very little. Not enough to show any sign. Is there hopes for this trigger getting closer to what I have on my older 15? Thanks

Sounds like it just needs some use. You can polish the insides of the plate and sides of the hammer, where they contact, to speed things up a bit. You could also "lube" the inside trigger-works with toothpaste and dry fire away, then clean and shoot. Or just go plink.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Well I made things worse. I took the side plate off, took some pictures and added a very slight amount of oil. I wiped the oil off so it just had a very fine coat. I put it back together and now about 50% of the time the trigger does not return. I took it back apart and compared the pictures and I don't see any issue. with the side plate off everything appears to function correctly. I re installed it and again 50% or more of the time the trigger sticks. ideas of what to check?

ok it is working better now. i took it back apart and lubed it a little better. making sure to get all surfaces that slide against each other. once I was happy with that i worked the action a dozen or so times without the hammer spring having tension on it. then I put it all back together. it is a lot smoother now then before and the trigger isn't currently sticking. I think it is mostly due to just not being used and still being a little stiff.

Some trigger return springs are the square looking wire and some are round. I have found no rhyme or reason. I have taken apart and polished many dozen Dans and often the trigger spring acts up in the beginning when you put it back. Maybe it isn't seated right against the trigger or it is getting stuck on some rough metal of the frame or sideplate. Eventually it starts working right. The factory spring tends to be scratchy. The single best thing you can do to improve the action in my opinion is put in Wolff reduced power springs. The 8lb mainspring is the one to use but it is the Wolff trigger spring that makes most of the difference. Very much smoother and quieter.
Re Ron's suggestion about toothpaste. Crest used to make one with hydrated silica (minescule marine fossils) as the number one ingredient. That is what does the polishing. They seem to have discontinued it. They do have a type with the silica as the number 2 ingredient. Don't use gel, paste is what you want. I have one unused tube of the discontinued type I am saving for a special shooter Dan. I found some on ebay a while back after the stores no longer had it.

Thanks. I didn’t take the spring out when I first put it back, but I still might have had something kid aligned. I have a spring kit on the way just have to wait for it to get here.
