New member and want to become the proud owner of a Dan Wesson. Long time S&W collector, so I think I "need" one of these. I was at Cabelas and they had what looks like a 715 with a 4" and 8" vented barrel. A little perusing your fine forum has given me that knowledge, if I'm wrong, please correct me. Serial number search seems to show about a 1984 build date. They didn't have any box or wrenches for it(at least he didn't know). They want $499 for it; would you buy it without any of the extras? Can I buy an aftermarket barrel wrench? I put it on 5 day hold, so who knows when I go back, maybe the accoutrements will show up!
Thanks,
Craig

I just paid 375 for a blued 15-2, no extra barrel or wrench or box. I got the EWK barrel wrench and it is great. I haven't seen any used decent barrel/shroud assemblies going for less than 150 online so it seems like good buy.
But I'm a newbie also so take it for what it's worth, someone else will give some straight info.

Yes that is a model 715. That is a great price with the extra barrel. EWK arms makes a superb wrench for removing the barrels, better than a factory wrench, see his ad in the right column of thios page. And I could be wrong, but that looks like an LB custom grip.

That setup with a second barrel and shroud is As mentioned the best tool is made by Eric at EWK and for barrel to cylinder spacing, a standard automotive feeler gage in the .006 range is fine. Manuals you can buy on ebay. I'd grab it if it looks as nice in person as it does in pictures.

Yes on both 715 and 1984 made. I would buy this and it does look like a custom grip made by LB, Ewk will provide the best tools to keep your dan tuned up. Check the side bar and order it and then go pick the Dan up! I think you will be well pleased. Oh and get ahold of the supervisor of the gun part as he may have some wiggle room on this one! (never hurts to try)

A very nice deal, especially from Cabela's.
Your picture looks a little like you might have two different height front sights. I can't be sure, but keep that in mind if you have trouble with POA/POI when you switch barrels.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
