Guys, I haven't visited in a while but was driven to warn you all about the flawed design of the DW shrouded barrel. I was just in my LGS and commented about the Dans they had on hand. The owner asked if I had ever seen the damaged barrel he had in back then went to retreive it.
Be careful out there with these 'ticking time bombs'...
If this where a 7 or 8 shot revolver the barrel could have actually ruptured!!!!
Enjoy! I believe it was a 357 Maximum.
Didn't this guy ever hear of a squib...

That's right these Dan Wessons are dangerous! If you fear your Dan Wesson you may send them to me, and I will sequester them here where they can be safe. No charge.
I agree and if your safe room gets full I will be glad to help with that as well. no need for anyone to get hurt...

I once got a good deal on a 10" 357 barrel assembly due to the 'barrel being stuck in the shroud.' $50 on gun broker. Once I got it apart there were 5 bulges in the tube. The shroud was still good. If you look real close you can see slight ripples but for me its fine. They are tough.

When I had my squib scare, and it really did scare me, the barrel was trashed, but the shroud barely had any detectable damage. The bulge in the barrel wasn't too bad that I couldn't pull the shroud off the locating pin, but there was no way I could get the barrel out all the way, so I drove the barrel out of the shroud with a couple of whacks with a big mallet. I kind of wish I had kept the barrel, but I tossed it, put the new one in, and went back to shooting. $25 for the new barrel wasn't too bad considering what it could have been. It sure didn't do my hands any good though, but at least I didn't drop the gun.
Seems like I remember reading an article from the 80's where they discussed testing. In the article I believe that blocked the barrel with a steal rod or something and proceeded to discharge 2 or 3 rounds. This was to show the strength of the Dan Wesson design.
If I get time I'll try to find it.

I have seen the same article and will look for it too! I also saw something about DW's having a choke bore!
If the 357 does not go boom something is a miss!
Yip send the dangerous Dan's to Kansas!

Kind of hard for me to imagine a .357 with no recoil and not much noise. Hmmm, maybe it didn't go off? I'll just shoot a couple more...

Guns&Ammo, CENTERFIRE REVOLVERS, TROUBLESHOOING AND TUNING, By Bob Milek (1981). He has a write up about the DW15 and includes the following with a pic of barrel and removed bullets (I don't do pics, sorry.)
"These 10 jacketed 110-grain .357 cal. bullets were removed from the barrel of a Dan Wesson by a gunsmith. The first one stuck about 1/2-inch back from the muzzle, and nine more were fired in behind it. This practice is most emphatically not recommended, but no damage was done to the gun or shooter. This can be taken as a testimonial to the ruggedness of the Dan Wesson revolver."
