Sorry for holding out, go ahead & beat me.
A little while ago, a good deal on a reblued .44 Mag V10 presented itself & I grabbed it. The reblue job on the shroud I would rate at about 90%, but the rest of the gun looks perfect. So because there's some flaws in the shroud, I intended to send it off to DW & get some slots cut in it…just like IHMSA's shroud on his 741 SRS… …then do the big "ta-da" when I got it back. (IHMSA's gun below)
Well, things have happened lately that look like will be putting a screeching halt to any extra gun fun for a while…including sending the shroud away for slots. So I decided to show it to you guys today & will post slot pics later, when I get 'em done.
I got this gun from a smith who does (did) the engraved commemorative guns that we often see on auction. This one was to be a "bear edition", but it never got done…however, it DID get a cool serial number!
In the above pic, you'll also notice that the roll mark on the shroud is the Palmer style…plus, you can see a bit of the bluing imperfections that I was talking about…that, combined with the discovery of a stainless barrel, cemented the decision to have slots cut.
The guy said the grips were made by Mustang…but after reading a couple of John Taffin's comments in "Shooting Steel", I believe these grips wrere actually made by Herretts. Because the engraving job was never completed, the grips didn't get completed either & are bare nekkid wood. Woops, I didn't mean to insinuate anything by using "bare nekkid" & "wood" all together like that, with a new DW.
I guess I'll try some Truoil on them & see if it looks any good. They have some nice looking grain in them.
And lastly, when I say the gun has been reblued, I mean everything is reblued ! The trigger, the front of the cylinder…the top of the barrel that's normally a flat color is all now VERY glossy! The only parts that didn't get the treatment are the sides of the hammer & the sights. I don't care, for $550 I think it's just fine.
This thing gives my .357 SM a real run for it's money, in the "super shine" department.

CF,
Shame on you for holding out.. That deserves 20 ! What an awesome project gun you have going on there and for a sweet $$ too. I see your case of is still in full swing too. No need to stop now. Help stimulate the economy some more. Go slots!! Slots are too cool. Can't wait for the finished photos.

I think you have a great idea! Perhaps DWF should apply for an American Revitalization and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant to fill DWF members' wallets and to help stimulate the economy. Of course, the drawback is that once the grant is accepted, the federal government has its claws in DWF and each member forever...I wouldn't mind the extra play dough to satisfy my insatiable desire for DWs.
all the way!

Good point...I'd have to re-name it to some "green job" type of name, then they wouldn't think twice. Probably offer me double the money right out of the chute.
You know...an etched on the side would look kinda cool, too! Hmmm...

Etched also.... ...Just send it in and make it like Waffle house; Tell Keith you want it smothered, scattered, covered, chunked, diced, peppered, capped, topped, and all the way ....
As long as it is in there you might as well get it all done, and then ask them to toss a few sideplate screws in the box to save on shipping.

Gorgeous piece. I'm looking forward to seeing it after the slots are cut. It's good to know that Keith will do that. I have 2 VH8 shrouds that need slots; one for my 740 and the other for my 445S. Both are Monson shrouds. I've gotta get on this as soon as I get back home.
Do I need to contact Keith first or can I just send the shrouds in for slotting?
