This year in stead of buying some lame gift for my brother's birthday, I decided to take him shooting with me. His idea of gun ownership is his Tokarev 9mm that he got cheap one day. My gun ownership idea is far from his. He knew I'd bought a couple guns lately, but had no idea of what I have...so I brought some that will make a bigger impression than that little 9mm.
Today's weapons of choice were the new (to me) Model 15 Porkchop .357, Ruger Security Six .357, the (new to me) DW .375 SuperMag, Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 & the Seville Silhouette .454. He got pretty darn excited when he saw the big boys come into the light.
I brought 18 jugs of water, 4 paint cans, a couple phone books & a steel helium (empty) can that someone left at work...and a dozen targets. We started with both 357's, running through 50 rounds fairly quickly...he on the Ruger, me on the 'Chop. The 'Chop is a great shooter & performed flawlessly. My brother's only complaint on it was that he didn't care for the short travel on the hammer...I told him "that's what they used to complain about when these guns were new"! Me, I'm used to it.
He really liked the looks of both the single actions & started with the SBH, while I grabbed the .375 SM. Every time he pulled the trigger, he giggled. Man, that .375 is ONE REALLY SWEET SHOOTER! The water jugs were set about 30 yards away & right outta the chute, I exploded 4 of the 6 jugs I aimed at, it rapid single action succession...haven't even touched the sights from the day I brought it home! My brother looked at me & said "you're GOOD"...I said it wasn't me, it was the gun!
I went back to reload, while he was getting more giggles from the SBH with each trigger pull. As he flattened out the rest of the victims, I grabbed the camera...

...and then my batteries died.
I ran another dozen rounds through the .375 & giggled to myself with each round, what a great gun! I set up the red metal can at a little more than double the distance in that pic & hit it with 5 out of 6 shots. For me, that's practically unheard of! The trigger pull on this one is the lightest of all my guns, ans really smooth too. I love this thing!! My brother liked it too, but seemed to have more fun with the SBH. We did have a couple of the bullets jump their crimp & had to coax the cylinder to turn, as the nose of the bullet rubbed the forcing cone...but that was the only glitch at all.
Finally, out came the Seville. Every time I shoot that gun, it's always been when I've had the SBH along too, so it's really easy to get a heads-up comparison. Compared to the Ruger, the Seville's feel is just...well...slick. That's the best way to describe it, it just feels so smooth compared to the SBH.
However, today recoil claimed a victim. After about 15 rounds, it pulled the ejector rod out of the tang (that you push with your finger), making the rod protrude into one of the cylinder holes, effectively locking up the gun. It took me a minute to figure out what happened, but I didn't have a stout enough screwdriver to remove the housing...so that ended the fun with the Seville.
Pretty strange thing to have happen. Here's what it looked like after I took it apart at home.

Anyhoo, we both enjoyed the day & all my "targets" came back looking very well ventilated.
