I recently bought my first DW, a 15-2. It came with only a 4"VH and I want to get a longer one. has already kicked in, but funds are low, so just one barrel for now. I figure an 8" would be best to start, but I'm not sure whether to get a VH or V or just standard.
I know a 8"VH would match the 4"VH, but I shoot my guns, so that's what matters most, how it shoots. I like the feel of the 4" barrel and I know any 8" barrel will balance
different.
So my question is, is a 8"VH uncomfortably heavy? Would a standard be better? What do you prefer?

Just my two cents worth, Buy them all!!! But seriously an 8 inch is a great barrel and I prefer the VH models and I recommend them for both looks and stability off the bench. However if you mostly shoot offhand I believe the standard or V shroud may balance better. Of course all of this is subjective to the shooter. Good luck

I have the 8V and the 6V and the 6VH... I like the 6VH (though right now its wonky). I use to shoot the crap out of the 8V, but now I like my 6". The 8" does require a lot of wrist support, meaning I use big fat target grips.
Just to make sure you understand you can have ONE 8" barrel and swap out just the shroud between V and VH... So if your buying from CZ you can buy one 8VH BA (translation 8" barrel assembly which includes barrel, shroud, and nut) and then just buy a 8V shroud.
