I recently purchased this revolver so please be gentle.... I've had quite a few S&W revolvers but no Dan Wesson's.

From what little I know it appears to be a model 15HV with 4" barrel. The serial number is 266xxx. Is it possible to determine the year of manufacture? I expect it is a Monson made gun from what I can determine.

Can someone tell me if this is a -2? What about the "original" grips and box? What might they look like? Thanks for your assistance.

Welcometo the nuthouse. Nice shooter. What you have is a model 15-2VH4. Original grips are available on gun broker most all the time and Zebra grips are available from DW. You can check out our serial number registry for an approximate manuf date. It should say monson on the side above the serial #.

First, let me say welcome and thanks for the pics.  I may be wrong and someone will correct me if I am, but it looks like a model 15-2 with a VH4 barrel assembly.  Note that the VH relates only to the barrel assembly and not to the gun.  Common parlance would express this as a Model 15-2 VH4.

It looks to be in excellent shape. Have you shot it yet?

It is a Monson made gun if it says Monson, Mass. above the SN on the right side of the frame.

Once you get used to the DW, you'll probably get rid of your S&W's to buy maor DW's.  It's a disease called DWAS.  We all have it here.

Once again welcome to the DWF.

Smile

To what does the "4" in "VH4" refer?

The VH4 is the shroud/ barrel description. Vent, Heavy, 4 inch barrel.

the "4" refers to the barrel length.  In the 357 magnum barrels were offered in 2", 4", 6", 8" 10", 12" and 15".  By the way, Welcome to the DWF Sign where DWAS controls our every action and results in someWife and at times Whipping from those close to usBig Grin.

Thanks for the pics. I am sure you'll enjoy your time here.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!!

I don't yet have the gun. I just purchased it. When I have it here and can get some hands on I'll post better pictures and do a range report.

Thanks again!

Ah, just what I need, another OBSESSION!! On SIGForum there is the "SIGness" which I also have!! I wonder if the two will co-habit? Then there is the COTEP which is an almost religious obsession with DW 1911s......

I think I'm in serious trouble here!

Welcome to DWF, I'd guess your date of manufacture to be 1980-81, but things are a little hazy on production dates.

SIGForum, eh? I remember it well. I agreed with something Todd Green posted, and the Owner/Admin didn't like it. Banned us both Whipping

Go Figure, the essence of tact and decorum, and I got banned Surprised

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to theDWF Sign
I watched that one go a couple rounds on GB, so I'm glad to see that it found a good home.

It looks like it should be a nice one for ya.Smile

Well, hopefully, it will be a solid shooter even though it went unloved for so long on GB. The fact that it went unsold for a few rounds may give a little pause but, we'll see.

LOL, I've already been combing the auction sites for grips and looking at the prices of barrels.

Sorry to hear. I've seen that happen on occasion. I just stay under the radar. It's just an internet forum after all. Thanks for the information on the production date. I looked at the Serial Number registry but really couldn't determine much from it.
