The same pawn shop that I got the 15-2 from has a 44 for $490.
Is this a decent price? I couldn't buy it now anyway, due to lack of funds and due to VA's "1 handgun per 30 days" law, but I was just wondering if it's worth keeping an eye on.
Condition-wise I'd say it's a little better than my 15-2. Less rust and no pitting that I could see, but there's more overall wear on the finish.
If I had 20 dollars for every time I've been held at knifepoint, I wouldn't have been stabbed by that guy for not having any money.

I think that $490 is a pretty high pawnshop price for a Model 44 that is in less than excellent condition.
I am regularly surprised at the crappy resale values for DW 44/744's. 15-2/715's regularly go at $400+, but the Big Dog does not seem to command a premium much above that.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

It might be that .44 mags in general are pretty popular here for some reason. Even the box stores only ever seem to have a couple in stock at a time and they're almost never the same guns from week to week.

If it's still there next month I'll see if they'll take $400 for it and maybe go as high as $440. Whether the market price is lower or not, you can't dispute that it's worth at least as much.
Though I sort of promised myself I'd get a Cz 75 next...

I'm also in Virginia so if you get a concealed carry permit you can buy as many handguns a month as you would like!
True enough, but the bigger obstacle is being able to afford more than one per month.

You know, that whole "paying the mortgage" thing is WAY overrated when it comes to buying a new gun

Hi all! Boy, i haven't been on here for a while, been busy this summer/fall.
Yea, I too have been noticing great fluctuations on prices at shows and shops...seems some of the folks selling them don't know how to price them? Or just adjust for what the market will bear from experience? I guess it comes down to condition and buyer desire.
I may know where a .445, stainless could be for sale... Mine. I have a screw in my left hand from a helicopter crash in '92, but that feels better than the right thumb I just re-broke this Sept. Broke both thumbs in '01 when a Jeep ran my motorcycle over, while I was on it. Needless to say preparing for deer season this year my grip style had to change and my grouping is just horrible. I cannot trust to humanely dispatch a deer at more than 30 yards, thus let nice a deer go @ 80 this year. Finished the season with my rifle, put two in the freezer, my friends say me hunting with a rifle is cheating, ha ha.
Anyway, to further expand this post, subsequently even further hi-jacking this thread? I have been a disabled veteran due to injuries from my last (5th) combat tour in '09. After a year in physical therapy, I have since been unable to find gainful employment....So I went and got a degree in Bus Management. Needless to say it has been slow finding work, and being a Master Auto Tech again with the condition of my hands and back is a nogo.
Even though I am still financially fine, my "man money" has been low. And just last night the pizza shop my wife and I were eating at was robbed while we were there(they only scored a couple bucks, owner ran them off). I need a carry piece now! We both have revolvers for protection, but we don't carry them much. I need to buy a Glock 26. Been shooting some friend's baby Glock .40s, although they have proven very accurate and fine for me to shoot...just too much "pop" with the .40 in a tiny gun.
So I'm wondering the going rate for a Palmer 7445 8" slotted. Hogue grip and DW wood, original manual and wrench. Case I made for it, 300ish Starline brass, 30+ nickel plated 30-40 Krag customs. Would sell for? Enough for a G26. case of ammo, mags, & holster?

I'm in PA also, sorry to hear of your disabilities, and THANK YOU for your service to this great country. I cannot realistically comment on the price for your gun as I'm not that familiar with it, however if you decide to sell, shoot me a PM, I'd be interested.
Good luck with your job search, I know about the down economy. I think that any employer that looks at your service (5 TOURS!) should see the dedication and discipline that you have. If you have the skills, your other character strengths speak for themselves.

Couldn't have said it better.
As for a price for the whole shebang, I'd probably start out asking $1K, then go for the closest offer from there. Of course could always help push a potential buyer over the edge.

Thanks guys...didn't mean to paint a sob story though, just pleading my case as to why I'm letting go such a fine specimen go. I have some irons in the fire as far as employment...I'm doing ok and post prob reads worse than it is, and my 'busy' schedule has been packed mostly with hunting he he he. I even used my free time to go to LEEK hunting preserve in Potter County to hunt and help out with other Wounded Warriors there.
I'll fire up the tumbler for the brass and take some pics of the whole shebang, and run an ad in the classified section of DWF. I have to go put a steering rack in a buddies Audi today, then after I recover I'll post the ad. I'll take Charger Fan's suggestion and take the closest to $1K.
In regards to this thread....I think anything under $500 for any Dan 44 is a good deal. More so if extra barrels or in SS. Don't have many pawn shops in my neck of the woods though, I understand they throw some better (cheaper) prices.
