I came across a DW at one of the local gun shops in my area while I was just driving around. I saw it in the case and asked to see it.

It turned out to be a 14-2. It had a Pachmayer Gripper on it, along with a 2-inch barrel. There were also two other barrels with it, a 6-inch and a 4-inch. They all have a satin-like finish on them, unlike my model 15-2, which is a high polish blued version. It was obvious that it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while.

It had a price tag of $500 on it. I asked if there was a case or anything to go with it, the guy said nope, what you see is what you get. Of course, I asked him what was the bottom dollar, cash money. He said he could go down to $460 on it. I thought about it for a while, thinking possibly I could use some of these barrels on my 15-2 as well (I already have a 4-inch and an 8-inch barrel for that gun).  I decided to buy it and since I don't have my CCW, I needed to come back after three business days.

I just went back today to pick up my gun and another fella was behind the counter, along with the younger guy who was there when I purchased the gun. I handed my receipt to the older guy so he could check everything. He then says, "oh, there's a case for this too!" Bonus!

The guy goes back into the office and gets this large Gun Guard case. He opens it up and lo-and-behold, there were two more grips, a speed-loader (with a round of ammo), a holster for the gun with the 2-inch bbl installed, the tool envelope to swap out the barrels and all the original boxes for the barrels!!!!! I'm not sure if gtdw applies here but, I left VERY happy!

It even has all the original boxes for the barrels, with the wrappers. Dates vary on the wrappers but they are from the 81-82 timeframe.

I even got the tool. Interestingly, this one is metal. When did they change from the plastic ones to the metal ones? When I picked up the foam in the case, just to check under it, the barrel gauge was hiding under the foam! Lucky me!

I think you got a really good  deal, and I will also say that based on the Serial Number, I think your 14-2 is a good bit older than 1981, more like 1977-78. That's pretty clearly a package that was assembled over time, and a 14-2 with 3 barrels does not come along all that often

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Steve,

I was going to do some checking to see if I could find out a little more about when the gun was manufactured. I figured that someone bought the barrels separately as they have the bar code and description on the bottoms of the boxes. I can't wait to try it out at the range and see how it shoots.

I've been thinking about how to possibly make my own Pac out of the case that they came with and possibly, make it so that my 15 will fit in there as well. It'll be tight but, it'll be wow

I had to get out of there before I started doing the happy dance. I was going to burrow through their used boxes for any grips or holsters but, decided that I'd better not press my luck.

The young guy behind the counter started piping up that the add-ons weren't part of the deal (I really don't think that he knew they were there) I politely, and only partly jokingly, told him to "shoosh!" I was REALLY happy when the older gentleman told him to "shoosh" too!   big-grin

ALWAYS look under the foam in anything you buy !!!  I can't tell you how many guns I've bought that have had wrenches, paperwork, etc under the foam.

Dang, that is one killer score. I think the rest of these guys are holding back, but I won't…you landed yourself a bonafide textbook gtdw right there, way to go!!occasion laugh

I agree that the barrels were added over time. If they were part of an original Pac, they wouldn't have come with the boxes. Still, that is in no way a subtraction from the value of the set.

Regarding your barrel wrench question, I'm fairly certain that those came along in the late 80's (maybe mid-to-late). There's a good chance that the original owner broke his original plastic one & had a "current" wrench shipped when he ordered one of those barrels. The allen wrench is not a DW item, but it's an excellent grip removing tool nonetheless.smile

Congrats again & thanks for showing it off!cool-pics drool dwf-sign

Did you check under the rest of the foam for a winning lottery ticket?

Seriously, nice score. I'm sure it will shoot well but tell us anyway. Congrats.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

I was thinking about it and something just hit me. I have boxes for the 2, 4 and 6-inch barrels. I have a box for every barrel. Doesn't it seem odd that even if two of them were purchased after the fact, there should STILL be one barrel that came with the gun? That means that one box is the odd man out. IF only these guns could tell their stories.....  Who even knows if any of these barrels are the one that it left the factory with?!

In any event, next stop, EWK!dwas
