Took it out to the range today and shot about 50 rounds through it. I swapped out the shroud for a 15-2 4-inch one that I had on hand. I'm thinking about using that one but, there's a conversion sight on it's way from EWK to make sure that it shoots where it should. It'll be a neat gun once I get it the way i'd like it. All in all, I like it and, I'm realizing the benefit of Kentucky windage!

I wondered about three barrel boxes when I first saw your picture. One other question: In your photo, it kind of looks like the frame is pretty shiny, especially in contrast to the barrels. Do you have a high polish frame, and satin blue barrel shrouds?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve,
The frame is definitely going barney but even so, is a little bit more shiny than the barrels, which almost have a brushed appearance to them but they're blued. When I put it up against my Model 15, the finish is much more polished on the 15. You can even see the difference with the model 15 shroud on it. The shroud is much more polished. I'm not opposed to thinking that someone assembled this kit years ago.
I'll keep it together, but I'm also thinking of doing some customizing to it to make it more my own. I'd love to install a stainless hammer, or at least a trigger. I just like that look. I'm also thinking of having EWK do some work on the rusty model 15 shroud and possibly a few other add ons from his catalog. I think it'll be VERY cool when finished.

I have a 14-2 serial # 180XXX and I have all the original paperwork , box, barrel wrappers and they are dated 1978 so this one in the 1977 time frame would be one of the earliest 14-2's here I believe.
That would be interesting for sure! I did a little looking at the serial number charts but there is a big gaping hole when it comes to the 14-2s. Anyone know when they switched from the porkchops to a pinned shroud? My serial # is 822xx, no one in front of it.

Late '75, if I recall correctly. I agree with Rod727, that your gun is probably one of the earliest 14-2's here on the Others are welcome to weigh in on this, because this stuff is what part of what we're all about.
For a while, I have been doing my own hit-n-miss accounting of various model's serial numbers, mostly from auction pics. The highest 14 Porkchop I have so far is #37475...
Yours isn't too far behind this one.

If you are referring to the change from porkchop to straight shroud, it was early in 1975, with the advent of the 14-2/15-2

Here is a pic of my 14-2, serial #73619. I didn't realize that the # was so low. Unfortunately I didn't get any paperwork with this one to date it.
Obviously much lower than mine! I wonder what number they started the 14-2s? Did they start at a XX000 number or simply change the model and keep numbering consecutively?
I took the gun apart and cleaned everything thoroughly according to SHOOT's sticky post here: https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/reloading/tuning-up-your-15-2-the-average-joe-method
Because of its age, I figured that everything has been polished over the years so I just set out to clean it and give it a little lube. I must say that it works even nicer now. Even better than my 15-2, which I like a lot. Anyone that has considered what is behind that side cover but were always afraid to find out, I'd suggest going to that thread and checking it out. There's a LOT of great info there. I've compared the differences between these and the "other wessons" out there. Just makes me that much happier to have a DAN!

It does not look to me that there were separate serial number runs for 14-2 ND 15-2. The numbers we have seem to run pretty concurrently for both models.

Looking at the serial # chart, I think your right Steve.
Hey, in the serial # chart there is a Steve Ct listed as original owner of a 15-2 purchased in 1977? Wow, I was only 11 years old then

I'd be up for a fiber optic on my 14s as well as my 15. I just got a shipment of Eric's sights for the 14 and a FO for my 15. I have seen some 14s with fiber optics but, haven't been able to find any. ERIC!!!!!
No reason we shouldn't put one more thing on that growing list that we talked about!
