Has anyone talked to the experts about what the process is to have the matte black finish put on the AGS. I know the metal of the guns are stainless steel. Was talking to lady at DW the VH6"C BA is $404.00 but they nolonger do the finish work. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Dayton

I contacted DW about the AGS and got this.
"Yes, we do make the barrel assemblies to match the Alaskan Guide .445 supermag. We offer the 4"@ $257.00, 6"@ $304.00, 8" @ $374.00 and the 10" @ $433.00. The AGS finish will be an extra $45.00 added to those prices. You may contact us at (607) 336-1174 ext. 21 if you would like to order. Generally, since we make them to order it takes 4-5 weeks for delivery. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and checks made payable to CZ-USA. Thank you for your email and I look forward to your response."
Everything I read is that the gun is SS with a coating.
Guys,
Just a piece of advice when trying to get parts or service for your DW go directly to the source and bypass CZ. The CZ\Dan Wesson Online store list very few items for DW Revolvers. All parts and barrel assemblies are available direct from Dan Wesson. Here is a link to the latest price list.
Here is the contact info for the folks up in Norwich. If you have technical questions I would suggest emailing Keith he's always been very good about getting back to me in a timely manner.
For parts contact Genny\Priscilla at 607.336.1174 ext 21 and for service or repairs contact Keith 607.336.1174 ext 24. Genny’s email address is genny@cz-usa.com and Keith’s email address is keith@cz-usa.com.

Were there any blued carbon steel revolvers to come out of the Norwich factory? One would have to assume the AGS was blackened stainless steel.
From Robar's web site:
BLACKENING OF STAINLESS STEEL
Robar is able to blacken stainless steel through the use of oxidizing type blacking compounds. This process produces black coatings on stainless steel and alloy steels by a "conversion" process. The chrome in the stainless steel is involved in a chemical reaction with the oxidizers in the solution producing chrome-sulfide. The application of the black finish is dependent upon the surface treatment of the steel. Bead blasted surfaces will have a satin black appearance while a surface blasted with aluminum oxide will be matte in nature. Importantly, dimensional changes involved in blackening are extremely small, less than 0.0001 Mil. This thickness of the black oxide type coating ranges from 0.00006-0.0001 Mil depending on the type of alloy being treated. Blackening of stainless steel not only makes the weapon more attractive but adds to its corrosion resistance (96 hours salt spray per Mil-C-13924B) and aids in preventing galling, common in stainless steel guns.

Yes, I had a Norwich first issue blued 44 Mag that I sold earlier this year. I actually bought that one along with the 7414 and 741 from the same dealer. All were new unfired guns... Sold the 44 to offset the cost of the others.
