Good afternoon everyone,

I am interested in purchasing my first revolver and came across an individual selling a DW 4 inch .357 revolver. He states he thinks it’s a 15-2 model. I have attached the photos I have of it.

what do you think I should pay for something like this. My only other familiarity with Dan Wesson are the 1911 lineup which I’ve always regarded as being very pricey and finely made! Thank you all for the assistance.

Yes, it is a model 15-2 with a Standard 4" shroud ... $550 to $750 depending on condition and accessories.

well I decided to make the dive in the revolver. I was able to negotiate it down to $400 bucks shipped to my FFL which was pretty awesome. I’m excited to get the revolver, just praying it isn’t a crapshoot. I’ll update once it’s in my hands.

first revolver I’ll ever handle, own, and even fire. If anyone has anything I should look out for. That would be appreciated!

Third Sticky on this thread.......

I think I’ve read that 3-4 times over now, just waiting to get it in my hands to really bust it open.

In the meanwhile I’m looking for a barrel tool and some feeler gauges. Super interested in a 2.5inch barrel. Any idea of price for one?

as always thanks to everyone.

Some hopefully helpful info:  When opening the cylinder, hold gun in your left hand; use your thumb to pull down on the latch in front of the cylinder; at the same time, use 2 fingers to push the cylinder open to the left. If you don't push with your fingers, you will think the cylinder is stuck because your thumb is pushing against it in order to pull the latch down.

It looks like your side plate is unmarked. That's great!  To keep it that way, keep your fingers on the cylinder to hold it open while you use the ejector to remove spent shells. If you let the cylinder fall back toward the frame before the ejector star is fully retracted you will have some nasty scratches on your side plate. These scratches are very common on used guns.

Enjoy your DW!

Thank you for that solid bit of advice; I want to keep this in as good a shape as possible to hold on to for a long long time (I'm a "young" shooter). Your observation about the lack of marks makes me even more excited to get this in my hands. Patiently awaiting shipping timecry

And for the 2.5" barrel assembly, email shawn at DW. Shawn@cz-usa.com. They offer them with the partial underlug (standard shroud) like your 4" or full underlug (vent heavy). Standard shrouds are $50 more because they machine off part of the underlug.

I got my set of feeler gauges from the auto parts store so if you don't feel the need for OE it's an option. I took the .006 off and put it my range bag w/wrench. You can find barrels and shrouds on ebay also as well as other parts.

There are new 2 1/2 inch BAs listed on the Dan Wesson, CZ, site for a decent price.  Some are listed on E-bay under Dan Wesson for a little more than a new one is priced.  The BAs on E-bay are going for around $300 or a little better.

I have bought barrel tools, and barrel nuts from a site called EWK Arms.  They have feeler gauges and allen wrenches too.  The gauge kit is only $5.99  I like the barrel wrench they have because it is very heavy duty.  They offer several things for DWs so I shop there often.

Good luck with your DW.  I really enjoy shooting them.  I have several and some them I have changed the springs in to help them shoot smoother.  When I took my first one apart I took a picture of it because it is so much different than S&Ws and Rugers.

A stray thought on shrouds.  The older shrouds are kind of rounded on the edges.  The pics I've seen of the new guns the shrouds seem to have sharper edges.  If it don't matter to you, it don't; if it does, it does.

EWK did have some shrouds. You might give them a glance.  I don't have any of their shrouds, but their barrels are very nice.

Thanks for the great information guys; I plan to follow the sticky guide here on tuning up and taking apart the revolver to get an idea of the insides. I will be looking for 2.5inch barrels as well per your sources! Thanks everyone!

Trying to hold the revolver with your left hand and opening the cylinder is hard! It's a lot easier to hold the gun with my right hand, and pull down the latch with my left thumb while pushing the cyl open with the fingers of my left hand at the same time.

But maybe it's just me..big-grin
