If it is a pork chop shroud, I think you have one too many digits in that serial number. From the description it sounds like a model 14 pork chop. These were service pistols with fixed sights, and usually a dull, matte finish. Try EWKarms.com, a sponsor and member here. His ad is on the right side of the screen. He sells blades for the front sights. You will need to knock or drill out that pin and drill the new blade to install it.
Do a search on fixed sight blade replacement and also pork chop sight upgrades and see if you get some helpful info. This issue has been discussed several times. I'm not the pork chop expert, you may want to send a PM to Chargerfan, he would be our resident pork chop expert.

Hello all,
I am trying to get some information about the following revolver for a friend. I think from browsing on here it is a model 715, 4" fixed barrel. My friends husband passed away and it was his gun. I am trying to help her determine what is a fair value if she wanted to sell it. She has the original case and manual. I can only seem to find revolvers with 6 or 8 inch barrels listed on sites I have searched and am not sure if I am looking at the correct model. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

We just inherited some firearms from a recently deceased family member. One of the MANY was this Dan Wesson Arms revolver. I'm attaching photos in the hopes that someone can help me determine which model this is, and the possible year of manufacture. I am only averagely smart regarding guns and unfortunately the terms being used to identify guns here (underlug, barrel shroud) is just not stuff I'm familiar with. I have a guess of Model 15, or 15-2... but I honestly don't think I'm right.
The markings on one side are "Dan Wesson Arms" on barrel, with "357 Magnum CTG" under it on the next line. On the frame just above the trigger is "Dan Wesson Arms", "Monson, Mass, USA" on next line, and a serial of "146409" on a 3rd line. The other side of the gun is completely clean of any markings at all. And there are no other markings of any kind anywhere else on the gun for that matter.
It does have an adjustable rear sight, based on the screw holes on the top and sides. And a red ramp front sight. Any help would be greatly appreciated so we can get an accurate log of the 40-something new family members we just adopted.
Edit: After looking at the Serial Number Registry, it seems I may actually be right about it being a 15-2. Based on that six digit serial number, it seems to fall into the 1977-1979 range if I had to guess. Can someone double check my work/pictures and confirm for me?

Also, I thought this might help you ncgrant. This information is from my 2019 Standard Catalog of Firearms. This should help you determine an approximate value based on condition if you can determine which of those two Model 715's you have.

Hi, this is my first post ever and I tried reading through this thread to figure out which model I have before posting. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so and I am very intrigued to find out which model I have and what its worth is, capabilities (as i read many have the option of interchangeable barrels etc.).
A brief background:
I am a 24 year old male whose father was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. My father recently gave me this gun to pass down stating that if I was going to protect my family and dwelling then he wanted me to do it with this gun which he loved so much and always shot with me growing up on our 20 acre property.
Today, i took the gun to the local range and shot it for the first time in a long time and it brought back great memories. Never has a gun felt so balanced and well-assembled in my hands. The lack of recoil from such a large caliber is something that all the patrons at the range who also were partaking in firing the gun couldn't get over.
Anyway, cut to the chase, and now I seriously want to find out the exact model I have and what capabilities the gun has as well as its worth ( I WILL NEVER SELL IT), but just fr shits and gigs.
Thank you to all that help!
Best,
Scott

Hey Scott - welcome to the forum.
It looks like you have a model 15-2 4V - a 357 magnum with a 4" vented barrel. I'm sure an older member will correct me if I'm wrong. 🙂 Judging from the serial number, it looks to be an early version. It's in excellent shape; I'd definitely hang onto that if at all possible.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Hope you enjoy your time here on the forum.

Oh, by the way, that gun does have the interchangeable barrel system. You can put barrels on it from 2.5" all the way to 15". Those are the target grips on it; you can also put combat grips on it. I'd say you could get $500 - $600 for it all day long. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "its capabilities," but it's a highly modular firearm that can be configured for carry/personal protection, target shooting, hunting, etc. Enjoy!
Scott B, you said it all and correct. Sbabbitt, pictures are needed but you probably have a very early model 15-2. They started at serial number 50,000 probably in 1974. The front sight should be a black ramp not easily interchangable but held in by a roll pin. They later made them easily interchangable with colored inserts.

I've searched around and just can't quite figure out the model of my Dad's 357 Magnum. I think it's a 15-2 but not sure. Can you guys help me out? I'm 41 and he's owned it my whole life (that I can remember). He left it to me when he passed away. I want to know the model and year. I'm not concerned with value because I won't be parting with it. Thanks in advance if you can h
