If you are referring to scratches on the side plate just behind the cylinder, they are caused by letting the cylinder close with the cartridge extractor star in the rearward position during the reloading process. The best way to prevent this is by holing the gun in the left hand and using two fingers to push the cylinder open as you release the latch with the thumb, then use the same two fingers to hold the cylinder open during the process.
Enjoy!

Hello, all! I just won this 6" blued Model 15 (or so it was listed) from an auction of my wife's late uncle's estate. I'm very happy with the piece, but I want to confirm what model it is and roughly when it was manufactured. I just covered the last few S/N digits (B005###). It was made in Palmer. Here's some pics:

My brother in law inherited this revolver from his dad. I have DW 1911s, he knew I liked Dan Wesson, so he showed it to me. I know very little about revolvers. I know it was made in Monson, six digit serial number, blued, service fixed site, 2" barrel. This is a 14, service, non-pork chop, correct?
My question what barrels will fit this gun?
For example, the CZ-USA webstore lists a 6" B/A SS 357 Magnum barrel "uses new shroud" for $304. Given this gun was made in Monson, I take it, this is the old shroud. Even if it looked goofy with a SS barrel and wrong shroud, would the new shroud fit? Or is this restricted to model 14, old style shroud barrels? Or just a fixed barrel?
If possible, I might conspire with my nephews to get him a repro DW kit case, and an additional barrel, 4" or 6", if I can find any for less than the cost of the gun. Any help is appreciated.
One can't panic buy skill.
You have a Model 14-2. The CZ barrels are the same but the shrouds are not only slightly different, they are for adjustable sight guns and will not shoot to point of aim without changing the front sight. Shop eBay for any appropriate barrel assemblies. You need the ones for the model 14-2. Nix faux DW cases. Look for the authentic cases. Unless you want to get all four lengths I suggest a DW soft case that holds an extra BA and is more available. Be patient when searching.

OK Guys,
Forgive me for a potentially dumb question...
I am a DW fanatic, but not an expert. A LGS has a DW on consignment, tagged as a "Model 15". It's a fixed-sight revolver with interchangeable barrels, but no additional barrels or shrouds offered. Not a pork chop, and does not have the ugly nut.
I am 95% sure this is a Model 14-2. Can anyone confirm or deny my assessment?
The revolver is in excellent overall condition, but does have a (very) few scuffs & scratches. The action seems fine. Asking price is $600, which I consider high, but the shop says the owner will entertain offers, and I'm considering trying to negotiate something.
Just curious what you other DW guys think!
Regards,
Jim
