If you can see a slotted barrel nut at the muzzle, it is a 714-4, if there is no barrel nut it is a 714-4 FB (Fixed Barrel)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

General question: I'm looking at a model 744 Monson revolver with a production date of 1994 - my question is whether a bead blasted finish is DW factory or done aftermarket? Thanks.
Unfortunately, that GB seller is a little off on his guess. I believe that gun is one of the first 500 .44's made in 1980 (or was it 1981, I always forget ).
Until that gun you're looking at popped up, I have only seen them with their display cases, so I'm not sure what the story is with the box...unless maybe it's not numbered to the gun.
The first 250 were mildly engraved, the 2nd 250 were not. The all
shipped in those mahogany(?) cases & had a letter of authenticity
to go with them.
Here's an example of the first run, including it's letter…

Although they appear stainless, these guns aren't stainless. They're
steel & finished with a grey finish. That gun's 40x serial number places it
gun squarely in the 2nd run…
Both the guns pictured sold on GB last May for $655 & $500
respectively. They would have probably gone for more, if the finish
wasn't buggered up on them. There is one currently on AA that the
seller's asking $899 for. I bet he doesn't get that for it, but I
wouldn't be surprised to see it easily sell for $700 if he lowered his
price that far.
Hello, I'm new here and need to get some info on a Dan Wesson revolver that is up for auction. I'm not sure what the differences are, but it's either a 15 or 15-2. There are pictures online that I can share here. What I do know about it is it's a .357 manufactured in Monson, MA, SN 87191. It is in the 4 barrel pistol pack, black case with the patch. I also know that it's had only one owner and has only had one round fired through the 4" barrel and that's it. It has the flat tooling in the little brown paper envelope. I would appreciate any info anyone can give me about it. I can be contacted best by email (or PM if this site has that function) marcus@celticarmory.com.

Hello all,
I'm new to revolver. I've traded my Sig Pro to an older gentleman in his late 50 or mid 60 for a 4" barrel Dan Wesson. I have no idea what model of this Dan Wesson. Do you have any idea what my Dan Wesson model is?

SA is working but the DA is not working well. It goes bang then skips. I've check the bullet. The primer was stroked but off center and shallow. Where do I find parts and how do I get this fix?

You have a model 14-2, with the less common hi-gloss finish. That's pretty neat.
Regarding the misfire problem, the first thing you want to do is unscrew the side plate, take the action apart & give it a good scrubbling. The misfire thing may just be from gunk fouling up the works inside.

Just picked up my first DW revolver. From this post I understand it to be a Model 15, made in Monson in the late 70's? I'm guessing the jeweled trigger and hammer weren't standard.
Nice looking Dan and know it is an early the hammer and trigger were done after at least I think. These we call pork chop due to the tang on the barrel shroud. More pics please and ask any questions. Only Barrels will be 2" 4 and 6" 15-2 will not fit this one!

The -2 (straight shroud) Series was introduced in 1975, the S/N Registry has a Model 14 #3627x listed as a 1974, my guess is that yours is a 1973-4 as. I think that DW did not run separate S/N ranges for 14's and 15's, so that timeframe seems pretty solid for yours.
