Hi Guys
I am busy looking at a DW 8" 44 mag and I just want to see if you guys can help me out abit on the gun. These are the pic I got from the guy! Can you guys maybe help with model and value of the gun by looking at the pic?
The guys want R10500 which is about $1190. That is the price a collector here in South Africa told him he could get. Is it a good price seems a little steap
Regards
Eddie

Howdy, What you have is a model 44VH8C (compensated) with a Hogue grip and what appears to be a Simmons's scope. Keeping in mind that price is very subjective to condition and region, I would value the gun at $600.00 to $800.00 US dollars. Others who are more in tune to the market will be along to correct me if I missed the mark. Now that was an estimate here in the southeast USA. I have no clue how that will translate to South Africa.

That price would be pretty steep in the US except to a collector. It is an unusual and less common model of a less common brand, especially outside the US.
Frankly, depending on your expected use, any 8" .44 Magnum could be just as serviceable, unless you really must have a Dan Wesson. There would be a premium placed on this gun, simply because it is much less common than a Smith&Wesson or Ruger .44 magnum.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

What exactly do I have?
Purchased used, only came with second grip (has DW and ergonomic), both are wooden.
I am guessing a 357 Mag CTG 15-2 w/ Target Barrel?
Barrel is around 6 inches (quick measurement from outside) Monson, Mass. USA Serial number starts with 17 and is 6 digits.
Bluing is about 90%, is in excellent cond. spacing is good (minimal in-between), mechanism is good, --slightly used, Noting else came with it, paid a little under $600.

That is a Dan Wesson 15-2 6V (6" Vent Rib, the .357 CTG just describes the caliber chambered) of 1978-79 vintage. You have the original grip, and what looks to be a Hogue grip installed on the gun. The yellow front sight is possibly/probably not original to the gun, the factory original was most commonly the red insert.

Thanks for the info. Is there a place recommended to pick up accessories that came with the gun (ebay appears to be high priced on many)? Which Speedloader works best for it?
For speedloaders, HKS 10-A is a good one & easy to find. These days DW accessories are getting harder to find cheap, but look at Gun Broker, Guns America & other similar sites.
Congrats on your first DW, it looks like a beauty from here!

Hi All,
I was hoping someone could help me identify my DW. They're not that common in Australia and I can't find anybody that knows anything about them.
The Serial number of mine is S/002815 and it's made by Dan Wesson Arms in Monson, I do know that the company name changed a few times so I suspect that this info will be of some use.
The serial number seems pretty low too.
Thanks in advance.

Welcme to the Forum.
That is a Dan Wesson 715 6VH
7=Stainless
15=Model 15 (.357 magnum)
6=6" barrel
VH=Vent Heavy shroud
You can pin down the year of manufacture more closely here:

Yours does have the very desireable Pachmayr Gripper grip, which was not original to the gun

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the info. I was given the gun by a mate who acquired it for next to nothing. There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in Dan Wessons down here in Australia but I really like them. Missed out on one yesterday that sold for $195.
Unfortunately I didn't get a box, book or any barrel tools with it so I am currently searching for those.
I'll be reading this forum a lot over the coming days.
Thanks again
Darren.
