Hello there,

Yesterday i bought a DW, stainless steel Serial number: 357S001417.

Now i'm wondering what Model it is, and want to get more details about the gun. For example the year it was build.

Also trying to find a dealer in Europe (Netherlands) who delivers parts for my DW. Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

A beautiful 715 6VH, at a guess it is a 1991-1992 gun, but S/N info on that time is pretty sparse.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hi, I am trying to determine the model Wesson that I have purchased.

It was manufactured in Palmer, the barrrel measures 4.5", it is stainless with Hogue grips, the number on the side is confusing me

357S007192

I believe, I may be wrong, when I get home I can verify this, I was checking it earlly in the mornikng, currently I don't have a picture, this too I can get once home.

This is my first larger revolver, I have been a trap shooter for years and am new to handguns.

Thanks for your help.

Your gun will be a 14-2 or 15-2, depending on fixed or adjustable sights. If it's truly a 5" barrel, it's probably a fixed barrel gun.

With a couple cool-pics we can definitely tell you which model you have.

It is adjustable sights on the rear, I think that it is removeable, it looks like it has two opposuing notches in the barrel. I will take some pictures and post them after work.

The exact measuremnt of the barrel comes to 4 5/8 inches.

Thanks, Jim

Of the barrel, or the shroud? The barrel itself should be an even number. This is measured from the forcing cone (front of the cylinder) to the business end.

Also, I missed the "S" in your s/n in your first post. So with that & the adjustable rear sights, it sounds like you have a removable barrel model 715-2. The "7" in the model number denotes stainless.

Thank you, I have measure the shroud from the front of the cylinder to the end, the forcing cone would add approximately another 1/8 inches.

I will get some pictures later this afternoon.

Oh yeah, fixed barrel.

Not a bad thing, and much less common that the traditional DW's we see every day.

Very nice- what you refer to is the serial number, however.  The model is a 715.  I'm not certain if there was further designation, as with the earlier DWs, to describe barrel length on the Palmer Fixed Barrels.  If so, then I'd say the description is 715-5FB (5" Fixed Barrel). Maybe the number 5 doesn't belong; someone will come along and correct me.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Ron, you may be right. So far I haven't seen a FB box marked as a "-2", so unless they noted them as a "-2" in the catalog, they may have simply been called a 715.

Here's the labels on a .44 FB for example, showing that you could order whichever barrel length you'd like. Kinda like Burger King, you could order your FB "your way".wink

Hi!

I would like to have more information about my Dan Wesson.

It seems to be quite rare here in Finland.

How old is my Dan Wesson..? It look as it were brand new..

Original package tells that model is a 740-V8S.

And original extra barrel is still unused.

There is also a text:

Dan Wesson Arms

Monson, Mass. U.S.A.

SE00172....

And there is the caliber .357 Maximum CTG

Thanks,

Pekka

dwf-welcometo the forum!  You have a very nice model 740 chambered in 357 Remington Maximum (357 Supermag).  There is a link to the serial number registry at the top of the page under the Archive tab.  A quick look would suggest your gun dates from 1986.   Those are fun guns to shoot and are very beautiful just to look at, one of my favorites.

To go with that you can shoot 357mag or even 38sp through these if the Max ammo is hard to find!

Great find!   dwf-welcome to this place!

Howdy! I recently purchased a DWA .357 CTG. From what I've read here and other places I've either got a Model 15 or 15-2 in 6". It has the adjustable target sight on it. I read somewhere that when DWA went to the model 15 they used components such as the sights from the model 12 on the early modelsWP_20140217_013.jpgImage Enlarger

. It was said you can tell because the M12 sights "wiggled" and were later dropped for an improved sight. Mine definitely wiggles. It may just be a bad screw though. Any truth to this? Also, can anyone tell by looking at the serial number what the approx age of the gun is? It's one of the Monson builds. I've included pics. I've always been a fan of the .357 and have owned them before, but I'm rather proud of this one. Also, where can I find a barrel wrench? I'd like to do a complete disassemble and clean it up right. This gun feels like it hasn't been broken in yet, it's very crisp, but the previous owner fired it a few times then let it sit. It got dry. I've spent a great deal of time oiling and wiping it down and working the action loose. Any history lessons / tips / advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That is a Model 15-2 6V made in 1979.

Best barrel wrench ever made for DW revolvers is available at EWK Technologies (left sidebar)

Check out the Average Joe Tuneup

You can also get a spring kit at EWK

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could tell me any details about this gun. It's a Dan Wesson .44 MAG CTG made in Monson, Mass and serial # 010003. It has 3 different barrels with it. One measures 3", one measures 5", and one measures 7". I would like to know when it was made, any other details about this gun, and how much it's worth. Any help will be very much appreciated! Welcome tmoney, nice looking older 44 mag. . It is hard to see on my phone, but I think that is the short hammer version. Around sn 10,000 they switched to a longer hammer. No other differences. Great gun. The 4" barrel is highly sought after and a lot of fun to shoot. If you do not have a barrel wrench, the best are from EWK Arms. You can also find originals on ebay. Absolutly necessary to set the barrel/ cylinder gap and swap barrels. All you need to know is in the forum. Set the gap at .002 on the tightest cylinder. Check the gap on all six cylinders. If you have any problems give us a holler. .44 Special cartridges van also be fired. Less recoil.  If you shoot much 44 Special scrub the cylinder well aftet use as they are shorter than the mag and may leave a ring that makes seating 44 mag difficult. It is one of the most robust revolvers ever made.

Thanks for the great information Ole Dog, is there any way to tell when it was made and how much it's worth? I will need to get a barrel wrench and I'll check one of them out at EWK.
