Hello! This is my first post here and I'm loving the site already.
Down to brass tacks... I am going tomorrow morning to buy a Dan Wesson 44 Magnum with a 5" (?)or 5-1/4"(?) full lug HV Barrel. It was made in Monson. I can't find anything about a 5" barrel. The guy I'm buying it from is not a revolver guy and I'm new to them, so the barrel with shroud measures 5", but then add the 1/4" of the frame. Not sure of the correct way to measure. I will try to post a picture. Any help is appreciated!! he says it's in great shape and it sure looks that way! I just LOVE the looks of this thing!... P.S... No tools or other barrels are included. I'm paying $500. Hope that's fair.

Yep - you got yourself a 44VH6, and it looks like a nice one. The .44 mag. barrels are 4, 6, 8, and 10 inches in length and you can always tell the length by the number of vents in the rib (#vents x 2 = length). The one you have there looks to be in excellent condition so I'd say $500 was certainly a good price for it. Look for a couple more barrels and you'll have a nice setup there!

Thank you SO much for your response!! I am looking forward to buying her tomorrow, even more so now that you've confirmed it's a good deal. I'm going to keep my eye out for a couple barrels! Thanks again!

What you will have is a damn fine looking example of the Dan Wesson large frame in 44cal. Looks to be a good deal from here too. Congrats and to the .
Beware of it has afflicted many of us here and has no cure but only one treatment, MORE DANS!
Seriously, a nice looking gun and glad to have you here. Check ebay and gunbroker for barrel assemblies for your gun. BTW there are some 44 BAs on now. Check the condition of the ones on ebay, there are some rough examples floating around right now.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Welcome to the Forum, I think you got a real beauty there and a good price.
Barrel tool from EWK, you will never find a better one
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome to the forum guys! I picked her up yesterday, but haven't had a chance to hit the range. As soon as I do I will give a report. My first impression- I LOVE IT!!!!! I've always been a Glock guy, and have only owned a few revolvers in my life (nothing bigger than .357-until now), but have always stuck to the semi-autos... This BEAST has changed me in a way that I can't explain!
I always wanted a .44 Magnum and I'm so glad that I got a Dan Wesson for my first. The trigger is as crisp as a cucumber! The quality seems 100% TOP NOTCH. I can't wait to drop the hammer on her! Bought a barrel tool and am looking at getting a 4" for her at some point.
Thanks again for making me feel so welcome! I will be back with a range report asap and I'm sure I'll stop by much more in the future!.... Here are a few pics I took of her after I bought her. The other pics were from the seller.

Man that baby is shiny! Looks in great shape.
I really like shooting my .44 with the 6"VH barrel, it is a powerful feeling but the heft of the gun keeps it manageable to shoot and enjoy. And everybody at the range will be looking when you pull that shiny beast out of the case!
