The first stainless 715 (and DW's first stainless gun) was offered in 1983.  It was actually featured on the cover of Shooting Times in January of that year.

Hope this helps!

Jody:

Is there a time line or Excel spreadsheet that shows the Dan Wesson pistol models on the left and the date that the Pistol was generally available and then another date when it went out of production?

I think something like that would be so helpful for many of us.

I would do it but I do not have the data....

That is something we have wanted to do but just not gotten around too.  Let me see what I can do about getting something like this created.

Anyone want to help?

I will help but lack alot of data....

Sounds like we need someone in charge of Model 15's....

Somone in charge of 22's

Someone in charge of 44's and large frames...

If we can get those three major lines done that would be good.

Perhaps if we start with the one, two or all three of the above, then we would have a good start.

I have the wholesale paperwork in my sweaty fat fist for a 715 VH6 I purchased from RSR Wholesale Guns in Rochester, NY.  I held an FFL back then.  Date of the invoice is 11/29/82 and I know the gun well.  SN:  D0051xx.  Get a handle on the original wholesale price:  $243.84!!!

I have a couple other invoices through the 1983 year.

Still trying to make shoulder holsters work...

That info is already recorded for the next update. Also going to have to update our history info, this is pretty conclusive proof that intro year was 1982, not 1983.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

If I can remember how to get a jpeg up on the forum, I'll scan that invoice and post it with some slight blocking of the last couple digits.  I'd love to photo the revolver but it is forever enshrined now in the collection of a dear friend, and he'd better stay dear and friendly!!!

I recall when I ordered that one it was because I'd was ordering some various other guns for customers and the salesman I dealt with a lot there dropped the hint on me that the stainless guns were in.  He knew I was a DW nut.  Next day I called back and ordered one.

No fair laughing guys – on that same invoice is a chrome Raven .25 ACP!  I used to sell a LOT of those Ravens to cop friends as last-ditch guns and even to some truckers who figured if they had to toss one they weren't out much.  Their business – not mine.

Hard for me to believe it's been 28 years and rolling…

I hate it when something comes out half right!  At my age, I normally NEVER get anything half-right!  Well anyway guys - there's the copy of the invoice showing at least one 715 made it into private hands in 1982.  Serial number range would indicate there were maybe some out before this.

Thanks for posting that, man they were a NICE price back then, weren't they?Laugh

Those little Ravens sure were cheap. At that price, you could buy them by the baker's dozen & still not run down the bank account.lol2
