So, I am looking to get a new BA for my 375 SuperMag revolver that will be coming into my possession as soon as the paperwork is finished. The gun currently is sporting the 8", Vented & Slotted barrel.
I contacted Dan Wesson, and was told that they can make my new BA's, in 4", 6", 8" and 10" lengths.
Since the bulk of my shooting will be 25 to 50 yards, I figured I would get something a little shorter & more handy.
I tried finding a factory 6" BA, but all the ones I found are in private collections of people who don't want to part with them.
So, I decided to buy a new BA from the factory.
Now, here is where I am torn. Part of me is thinking to go with the 6" barrel, as it looks good on the guns and it should be a nice compromise between length & handling characteristics.
The other part of me, is saying to buy the 4", just cause it would be really bad@$$, and would be totally different from anything else. I know it would not be as good as the 6" in terms of shooting, but it would still be awesome.
As a result, I decided to buy both, but can only afford one at this time, either the 6" or the 4".
Which do you guys think I should go with? 4" or 6". The shrouds will be Vented & "Heavy" profile.
Thanks!
BTW, this is a pic of the current set-up.

Just my two cents. Buy the 4" as it may be the only one in captivity and will be really cool. Also if you are only shooting up to 50 yards the 4" will be plenty long enough. Then if you feel the need to fill the gap later go for it.

I have seen 2 cases of a 4-HV barrel on a 445 Super Mag, both in stainless, but never on a 375 SuperMag.
There is actually one on Arms List right now:

I think the 4" might look a little dis-proportionate on the gun, but if you look at the 4" 500 S&W, that is roughly the same frame size with a 4" barrel.

I'll offer the "other" opinion. I would go with a 6" VH given the fact that you can buy either. This is strictly for shooting purposes. I have fired a 4" on my 7414 and it is close when it comes to energy to the 375. I did not really enjoy shooting the 4", but the 6" balances very well. Just my opinion.

I did think about this and that's what I meant by the "shoot-ability" of the 6" over the 4".
However, I do have one little factor on my side. Since I will be hand-loading for this gun, I can easily tame down some of the round to make them a little easier on the hands. Would be a pain to keep 2 sets of rounds, "mild" and "hot", but would solve that issue.
This "issue" is also why I will be buying both, as I'd love to make my own pack so-to-speak. Granted, the 4" and 6" will be VH's, and the 8" will be a VS shroud.
Honestly, I think I am going to go with the 4" for now, since I would still have the 8". If I didn't have the 8" as well, and had to pick one length for a "do-all", I'd definitely pick the 6". However, since this is in fact a Dan Wesson, I don't have to choose hehe
