Good evening. Hope someone can help. Got a chance to buy a High Standard MKIII side plate, replacing a damaged one on my DW 15-2.  They look similar, but never having seen an HS in person I just don't know. Can i use it? Appreciate any answers. Thanks!

The sideplate is a hand-fit part, so even a 15-2 sideplate from one gun may not fit another 15-2 frame ... or it may. But to answer your question, the MkIII is basically the same gun as the DW. 'ole dog' may come along and chime in with more detail.

worshipThanks for the quick response, Stinger. I bought the plate just now from Ebay, and even though I've got a good gunsmith here in town I hope it falls right into place and spares me the expense.  Figured for $50 I'd better jump on it since they're rarely sold cheap, with hardware AND in good shape. Much obliged...

The answer to the question is a resounding NO... The HS side plate doesnt have the space machined for the crane lock mechanism. Otherwise it's the same. I've been playing with the old broken plate and the cast metal is surprisingly soft! I'll try to duplicate the space needed using a Dremel and the old plate as a guide.

Stinger, you were so right about side plates being particular to one gun.     After dremeling the lock notch it still needed light filing here and there, but it suddenly fell into place. I'll cold blue the sanded spots.  but I'm very happy with the results, being a first-time thing.
