Hello All,
I have a Dan Wesson 45 colt with a 8 Inch vent rib heavy barrel and was wondering if mounting a scope via clamp on mount/rings could hurt vent rib area under heavy recoil? Thanks in advance. Boats

Pickup a large frame shroud to D&T it for a scope base.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

It will definitely mar the rib. Been there done that recently with my 715. I had Bob at DW refinish it after purchasing a 8" assembly for bob to drill and tap and install their scope base. He didn’t charge me to bead blast the rib which was nice.
I recommend emailing Bob and Shawn at DW to get a shroud ordered and have them drill and tap it. I’d also suggest buying their scope base. I have 3 of them (on my 722, 715, 744) and they are ROCK solid and beefy.
Drill and tap bob charged me $40 or $50. Scope base is $49.
They can definitely make you a 45 colt shroud in blued or SS. And they can laser engrave the caliber on the shroud. Format is up to you. “45 LC”, “45 Long Colt”, “Caliber 45 long colt” etc.

Or if you’re cheap like me and a shooter not a collector, you could ship the shroud to Bob for D&T. I realize the 45’s are rarer and would affect value but I have no plans on selling my DW’s. Your mileage may vary...

Another option is to find a 44 mag shroud on eBay and use that with a scope. Sell me the 45 colt BA. Lol. Seriously, don't mar the 45 shroud. Besides, clamp ons don't work too well under large frame recoil but 45 colt may not be as powerful as 44 mag. An EWK shroud is another option.
